Description and characteristics of Skoda Kodiaq cars

Skoda Kodiaq — a mid-size crossover (J-segment) from a Czech automaker "Skoda Auto", which has been produced from 2016 to the present. The name "Kodiaq" comes from "Kodiak bear", which stands for the largest brown bear native to Alaska. The engine is mounted transversely in the front, with all-wheel drive (4x4) or cheaper front-wheel drive models. The body is designed as a five-door SUV with five or seven seats for passengers.

First generation (2016-2024)

The car was presented at the Paris Motor Show in September 2016, and sales began in October. Based on the modular MQB platform, which is used for crossovers "Volkswagen Tiguan" and "SEAT Tarraco". It is the first car in the Skoda range to feature a 360-degree camera, road sign recognition, trailer towing assistance and predictive pedestrian protection. Cars with increased ground clearance "Kodiaq Scout" and more athletic "Kodiaq Sportline" were shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. The trim levels and equipment were called "Active", "Ambition", "Style", "Laurin & Klement" and "RS." The crossover's dimensions were as follows: wheelbase 2791 mm, length 4697 mm, width 1882 mm, height 1676 mm, and curb weight of 1452-1686 kg. The first-generation Kodiaq was assembled in the Czech Republic, India, China, Russia, and Ukraine.

Petrol engines are available in three 1.4-litre, four-cylinder models (1395 cm³, EA211, TSI, 148 hp), 1.5 liters (1498 cm³, EA211 evo, TSI, 148 hp) and 2.0 liters (1984 cm³, EA888, TSI, 177/188 hp). The diesel engine is also a four-cylinder 2.0-liter unit (1968 cm³, EA288, TDI, 148/188/239 hp). All engines have four valves per cylinder and are turbocharged. Three transmission options were available: a six-speed manual, a six- or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG). Torque is transmitted to the front wheels, or an all-wheel-drive variant with a Haldex clutch.

In November 2016, Top Gear magazine named "Skoda Kodiaq" the best family car in the world. This crossover won the title of "Car of the Year" 2017 in the Czech Republic, Poland and Bulgaria, "SUV of the Year" in China and France, as an all-wheel drive vehicle in Germany, and also received an award "Red Dot Design Award" for 2017.
