1. Drive shaft boots are very important elements, as they protect constant velocity joints (CV joints) from dirt, water and other foreign bodies that cause damage. External contamination of the anthers with oil and grease can lead to premature failure of the anther material, so it is recommended to periodically wash them with soap and water.

2. Inspect the anthers (see illustration) for breaks and cracks, as well as loose clamps. If cracks or grease leaks are detected, the boot must be replaced (see Chapter 8).

3. At the same time, check the general condition of the CV joints by holding the shaft and simultaneously trying to turn the wheel. Try again by holding the inner CV joint and turning the shaft. Any noticeable play indicates wear in the joint, wear in the shaft grooves, or looseness of the shaft lock nut.
