Checking the condition of the CV joint boots of the drive shafts (Skoda Superb B6)

1. Drive shaft boots are very important elements, as they protect constant velocity joints (CV joints) from dirt, water and other foreign bodies that cause damage. External contamination of boots with oil and grease can lead to premature failure of the boot material, so it is recommended to periodically wash them with soap and water.

2. Inspect the anthers (see accompanying illustration) for breaks and cracks, as well as loose clamps. If cracks or grease leaks are detected, the boot should be replaced (see Chapter 8).



3. At the same time, check the general condition of the CV joints by holding the shaft and trying to turn the wheel at the same time. Try again by holding the inner CV joint and turning the shaft. Any noticeable play indicates wear in the joint, wear in the shaft grooves, or a loose shaft lock nut.
