Bringing the rear suspension to the damper rebound position corresponding to the curb weight
All bolts of parts with silent blocks must be finally tightened when installing the suspension in a position corresponding to the curb weight of the vehicle (vehicle is not loaded).
Curb weight
Weight of vehicle ready for operation (with full fuel tank, windshield/headlight washer reservoirs, spare wheel, tool kit, jack, but no driver). The spare wheel, tool kit and jack must be in the places provided by the manufacturer. Rubber-metal hinges (silent blocks) have a limited working range of twisting. Therefore, the suspension must take a position corresponding to the curb weight of the vehicle (vehicle is not loaded). Otherwise, internal stresses will occur in the silent block, which will lead to a decrease in the service life of this part. The working position of the suspension can be simulated on a lifting platform by raising the suspension using an engine and transmission jack, eg -VAG 1383A-, and support -T10149-. Before starting work, measure, for example, using a tape measure, dimension -a- from the middle of the wheel hub to the lower edge of the wing.
The measurement must be carried out on a vehicle with a curb weight (vehicle is not loaded). Write down the resulting value -a-. It will be necessary for the final tightening of bolts and nuts. Before raising the suspension of the respective wheel, secure the vehicle with straps -T10038- to the bracket arms of the lift.
Attention! Otherwise, it may slide off the lift.
Remove wheel. Rotate the hub so that one of the wheel bolt holes is at the top. Screw support bracket -T10149- to hub with wheel bolt. Raise hub with engine and transmission jack, eg -VAG 1383A-, until dimension -a- is reached.
The final tightening of the respective bolts/nuts of the suspension parts should be carried out only after reaching the dimension -a- measured before starting work, between the middle of the wheel hub and the lower edge of the wing.
Attention! It is forbidden to raise or lower the vehicle when the jack for engines and transmission units is under the vehicle. Do not leave the engine and transmission jack -VAG 1383A- under the vehicle longer than necessary.
Tighten the appropriate bolts/nuts to the specified torque. Lower the wheel bearing housing. Remove the jack for engines and transmission units from under the vehicle. Remove support bracket -T10149-. Remove belt -T10038-.
