Note.
- Necessary special devices, control and measuring instruments, as well as auxiliary means:
- Cooling system testing device "V.A.G 1274".
- Adapter (s) of the device for checking the cooling system "V.A.G 1274/8".
- Adapter (s) of the device for checking the cooling system "V.A.G 1274/9".
Note: Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature before starting the test.
Caution: When opening the expansion tank, hot steam may leak out. To avoid eye injury and burns, use safety glasses and protective clothing. After closing the plug with a rag, carefully open it.
1. Open the expansion tank.
2. Install a test device to check the cooling system "V.A.G 1274" with adapter "V.A.G 1274/8" on the expansion tank, as shown in the figure below.
3. Using the hand pump on the test device, create an excess pressure of approx. 0.1 MPa (1.0 bar).
If the pressure value drops
4. Find the leaky area and fix the problem.

Checking the safety valve in the cover
1. Install a test device to check the cooling system "V.A.G 1274" with prefix "V.A.G 1274/9" on the cork.
2. Pump with a hand pump. If there is excess pressure of 0.14-0.16 MPa (1.4-1.6 bar) the safety valve should open.
The safety valve opens too early or too late
3. Replace the cover.
