Own diagnostics of ignition system (Skoda Octavia 1U)

The task of its own diagnostics is primarily to identify defects in the operation of the MPI system. While the engine control is working, the control unit constantly monitors this work, as well as the correctness of the incoming signals. All sensors and actuators of the injection and ignition systems are constantly checked.

The following functions are controlled separately:

• lambda control, detonation control and idle speed stabilization;
• control of electrical circuits and signals from sensors;
• monitoring of electrical circuits of injectors, electromagnetic valves, fuel pump relay, ignition module, ignition coil and throttle actuator.

If diagnostics reveals a defect, it leaves it in memory until:

• the defect will not be corrected and information about it will be erased;
• the defect will not be identified as sporadic and if after a certain number of engine starts it does not reoccur; then it is automatically erased.

If diagnostics determines a sensor defect, the time program values are entered and thus the vehicle's operability is maintained. Only the signal from the speed sensor is not simulated and in its absence the engine cannot be started.
