Measuring the axial clearance of the timing camshafts (Skoda Rapid NH1)

Note.

• Necessary special devices, control and measuring instruments, as well as auxiliary means:
• Universal holder for a clock type deviation indicator (MPZ-447 (VW 387)).
• A clock type deviation indicator, for example (VAS 6079).

1. Remove the camshaft support frame (see the relevant section in this chapter).

2. Fix the dial indicator with universal bracket (MPZ-447 (VW 387)) to the bearing frame as shown in the figure.

3. Press the camshaft by hand against the deviation indicator.

4. Set the deviation indicator to "0".

5. Move the camshaft away from the deviation indicator and calculate the value. Axial clearance of the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft: 0.048-0.118 mm (required value), 0.17 mm (wear limit).
