Attention! When working on airbags, observe the general safety regulations for handling the pyrotechnic modules for airbags, seat belt pretensioners and the battery disconnector.
Remove upper A, B, and C-pillar trim. Remove ceiling panel (just lower). Detach retainers -1-, -2-, -3-, -4- and -5- of upper airbag retaining tabs from body. To do this, insert e.g. tool -VAS1978/17- "spoon" -arrow- as far as it will go into the hole -A-, as shown in the figure. Simultaneously remove the left half of the retainer from the body. Pull out tool -VAS1978/17-, making sure that the unlocked half of the catch does not snap back into place. Turn the tool -VAS1978/17- by 180°. Repeat the same with hole -B-.
Detach retaining clip -1- from A-pillar.
Pull out lock and unplug connector -1- for head airbag -2 arrow-. Release screw -3- on upper airbag.
First detach the head airbag -1- from the body at the front and push it back -arrow B-. Detach airbag from body -arrow A- and remove.
Installation
First hook the head airbag -1- onto the rear bodywork -arrow A- and then move it forward. Hook airbag onto body at front -arrow B-. Secure the head airbag with the screw -1-.
Rotate rear end retainer -1- 90°downwards -arrow- and push it into body. By pulling, check if the latches are well latched. Connect the connector to the head airbag igniter. To do this, press the latch: then the connector is brought to the stop and at the same time is fixed in the squib. Check that the locking bar is visible along its entire length and runs straight. This will ensure that the airbag does not twist. Installation in reverse order. Turn on the ignition.
Attention! Make sure no one is in the danger zone.
Connect battery terminals.
