Caution: Be extremely careful when connecting the battery after assembly.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and wait at least three minutes before starting any work.
2. Remove the driver's side front airbag module (for more details, see the relevant section in the chapter Passive safety).
3. Remove the instrument panel frame together with the upper steering column trim panel (for more details, see the corresponding section in the chapter Body).
4. Remove the lower steering column trim panel assembly (for more details, see the relevant section in the chapter Body).
5. Remove the universal steering column switches from the steering column.
6. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the ignition switch (1) and the immobilizer reading coil (2) as shown in the figure below.
7. Remove the steering wheel lock and ignition switch assembly.

8. Unscrew the mounting screws (arrows) (drill out the bolts), shown in the figure below.
9. Remove the steering wheel lock assembly.

Installation
1. Install the steering wheel lock, then install and tighten the new mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts until the head breaks off.
2. Install the ignition switch and steering wheel lock assembly.

3. Connect the wiring harness connectors to the immobilizer reading coil and to the ignition switch.
4. Install the steering column switches on the steering column.
5. Install the lower steering column trim panel assembly (for more details, see the relevant section in Chapter Body).
6. Install the upper steering column trim panel together with the instrument cluster frame (for more details, see the relevant section in the chapter Body).
7. Install the steering wheel assembly.
8. Install the driver's airbag module (for more details, see the relevant section in the chapter Passive safety).
9. Connect the battery.
10. Reset diagnostic system errors.
