Castle assembly
Note: New shear screws will be required during reassembly.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Complete the procedures in paragraphs 1 through 5 of Section Removal and installation the steering column.
3. Remove the upper steering column mounting bolts (try to remember the installation positions of the spacers and rubber pads). Remove the support clamp.
4. Remove the lower column mounting bolts, rubber pads and spacers, then lower the column slightly to provide access to the lock assembly.
5. Remembering the order of the connector connections, disconnect the wiring from the lock. On models equipped with an immobilizer, carefully release the sensor ring from the lock casing and move it away from the steering column.
6. Using a hammer and a suitable punch, tap the heads of the lock housing tie bolts around the perimeter, loosening the bolts enough to allow them to be removed by hand. Once the bolts are removed, remove the clamp and separate the lock assembly from the steering column.
7. If necessary, the lock cylinder casing can be removed from the mounting clamp by removing the shear bolt.
Installation
1. If required, install the lock cylinder housing into the retaining clamp and screw in a new shear bolt, tightening it lightly at this stage.
2. Place the lock assembly in its original position on the steering column. Install the mounting clamp and screw in new shear bolts.
3. Tighten both bolts evenly in several stages. Check the assembly for proper operation, then tighten the bolts until their heads are sheared.
4. Connect the electrical wiring to the lock in accordance with the markings made during dismantling. If equipped, snap the immobilizer sensor ring into place.
5. After making sure that the spacers and rubber pads are installed correctly, place the steering column on the lower supports. Screw in the lower mounting bolts, then install the upper support clamp (again, check that the components are assembled correctly) and tighten it with bolts. Make sure the column is positioned correctly, then tighten all fasteners to the required torque.
6. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling. Please note the following points:
- a) Ensure that the electrical wiring is correctly laid and that the harnesses are securely fastened in all the provided intermediate fasteners;
- b) The procedure for installing the steering wheel is described in Section Removal and installation the steering wheel;
- c) Before installing the lower column cover, make sure there is a small gap between the steering wheel and the upper cover. If necessary, adjust the gap by loosening the clamp of the steering column paddle holder.
Ignition switch
Removal
1. Remove the lock assembly.
2. Remove the cap screws and remove the ignition switch assembly from the rear of the lock housing.
Installation
1. Make sure the switch is positioned correctly and insert it into the lock housing. After making sure the switch is correctly engaged with the lock, finally seat the assembly into the housing.
2. Clean the threads of the mounting screws and lightly lubricate them with fresh locking sealant. Screw the screws into the lock assembly and tighten them securely.
3. Reinstall the lock assembly.
