Removing
1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
2. Remove the screw (arrow), connecting the universal joint of the steering column and the steering gear shaft (1), as shown in the figure below. Pull and disconnect the universal joint from the steering shaft in the direction of the arrow as shown in the figure below.
3. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the front wheels.
4. Loosen the fastening nut (1) tie rod end joint (2) to the steering knuckle as shown in the figure below. Do not unscrew the fastening nut completely, leave it screwed on a few turns.
5. Using a special tool (3287A), press the tie-rod end pin out of the steering knuckle as shown in the figure below. Loosen the fastening nut completely.
6. Loosen the fastening nut (1) struts to the anti-roll bar on both sides, as shown in the figure below.
7. Disconnect the anti-roll bar (3) from the stabilizer eye (2), as shown in the figure below. Repeat this operation on the opposite side.
8. Loosen the mounting bolts (arrows) steering gear to the front suspension subframe, as shown in the figure below.
9. Release the fastening elements of the subframe and set it to the operating height (for details, see the relevant section in chapter Chassis).
10. Lower the front suspension subframe assembly using the special hydraulic jack and support.
11. Remove the steering gear assembly from the subframe.
Installation
Before installing the steering gear, check and make sure that the anthers and seals are not twisted. Anthers must be securely fixed with fastening clamps, otherwise water and dirt can get inside the steering mechanism, which will lead to a quick failure.
Make sure all sealing surfaces are clean.
When replacing the steering mechanism, at the same time, it is necessary to replace the tie rod ends.
Note. Before installing the subframe mounting screws, the steering gear mounting bolts must be installed.
1. Tighten the fastening elements of the front suspension subframe.
2. Tighten the steering gear bolts to the front suspension subframe (arrows), as shown in the figure below.
3. Connect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles.
4. Connect the steering column universal joint (1) to the steering gear shaft as shown in the figure below.
5. Install and tighten the connecting screw (arrow) universal joint and steering gear shaft as shown in the figure below.
6. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery with the ignition off.
7. Install the front wheels and tighten the bolts of their fastening with a tightening torque of 120 Nm.
8. Perform operations to adjust the angles of the steered wheels (for details, see the relevant section in chapter Chassis).
