Note: If the battery has been disconnected, the vehicle may exhibit some unusual driving characteristics for several kilometers after it is reconnected. This is because the engine management system needs to be reconfigured to match the engine parameters. You can ignore the unusual behavior of the car during this period.

1. To access the battery terminals and indicator, you need to remove its plastic cover (1 in illustration 17.3 Chapter 1), pressing the latch at the front (arrow) and pulling the cover up. If the battery is covered by a soft case, simply pry the cover from the wing side and fold it up and out of the way, after which the case can be pulled up and off the battery.

2. Turn off all electrical consumers, remove the key from the ignition and wait a minute.

3. To disconnect the battery, disconnect the wire (1 in the illustration) from its negative terminal. If necessary, disconnect the positive cable (2) only after disconnecting the negative cable.

4. After working on the SRS system, turn on the ignition before connecting the battery. In this case, no one should be in the car.

5. On models with the system "Start-stop" (with battery status control unit "J367") disconnect the connector before connecting the battery (3 in the illustration) block (2). The connector should be connected only after the battery is connected.

6. The battery connection is made in reverse order. Do not lubricate the battery terminals. If the positive cable was disconnected, reconnect it before connecting the negative cable. Tighten the clamping bolts to 6 Nm.

7. After connecting the battery, turn the ignition on and off, then do the following:
  • set the time on the clock;
  • initialize the electric window lifter drive (see chapter "Controls and operating techniques ");
  • enter the security code for the audio/navigation system (except for models with standard audio/navigation system);
  • using a diagnostic tool, perform the steering angle sensor zero compensation procedure;
  • use a diagnostic tool to read the fault codes;
  • check the proper operation of all electrical consumers.
