Preparation
If the engine does not start due to a dead car battery, you can use a battery located in another car to start it. For this purpose, auxiliary jumper wires are needed.
The nominal voltage of both batteries must be 12 V. The capacity (Ah) of the battery used to start the engine must not be significantly lower than the capacity of the discharged battery.
Auxiliary jumper wires
Use only jumper cables with a sufficiently large cross-section and insulated terminals. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
The positive wire is red in most cases. The negative wire is black in most cases.
Caution: A discharged battery can freeze at temperatures just below freezing. If the battery is frozen, do not jump-start the engine with the battery outside the vehicle; there is a risk of explosion! Also, after defrosting the battery, there is a risk of burns from leaking acid. A frozen battery must be replaced.
Note:
- There should be no contact between the two vehicles, otherwise current may flow when the positive terminals are connected.
- The discharged battery must be properly connected to the vehicle's electrical system.
- Turn off your car phone or follow the phone's instructions for this purpose.
Starting the engine

Connection of positive terminals:
- connect one end (1) to the positive terminal of the discharged battery (A);
- connect the opposite end (2) to the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery.
Negative terminal connection:
- connect one end (3) to the negative terminal of the auxiliary battery (B);
- connect the opposite end (4) to a part of the vehicle being started that is firmly connected to its engine block, or connect it directly to the engine block itself.
Starting the engine:
- start the engine of the auxiliary vehicle and let it idle;
- then start the engine of the car with the discharged battery;
- if the engine does not start, stop starting the engine after 10 seconds and try again after 30 seconds;
- disconnect the wires in exactly the reverse order.
Attention:
- Contact between uninsulated parts of the terminal blocks must not be allowed. In addition, the wire connected to the positive terminal of the battery must not be allowed to come into contact with conductive parts of the vehicle (danger of short circuit).
- Do not connect the cable to the negative terminal of a discharged battery, otherwise strong sparking when starting the engine may cause the battery to explode.
- Do not connect the end of the wire to any part of the power supply system or to the brake system.
- Position the jumper cables so as to prevent them from being damaged by rotating parts in the engine compartment.
- Do not lean over the battery (danger of burns from corrosive electrolyte)!
- The battery cell caps must be screwed in securely.
- There should be no open flames near the battery (a burning candle, a lit cigarette, etc.): there is a risk of explosion!
