1 – sealing lining; 2 – inner mirror casing; 3 – input; 4 – piston; 5 – control casing; 6 – external rear view mirror; 7 – electric control; 8 – manual control; 9 – overlay

On Skoda Octavia cars, the manufacturer installs two alternative types of external rear-view mirrors: an external mirror controlled manually, and an external mirror controlled and heated electrically. Electrical heating of the mirror glass limits fogging and icing of the mirror.

The mirrors are obviously different for the left and right sides, and the mirror for the left side is not a mirror image of the mirror for the right side. The difference is primarily in the angle of the main position of the overlay (on the passenger side, the trim in the main position is more inclined towards the door) and, secondly, in the mirror used. The driver's door mirror is aspherical, and the passenger's is spherical. The aspherical mirror has a separate mirror glass. Almost two-thirds of the length of the mirror has a flat surface, and from the outer third of the length it has a variable radius, due to which the field of view increases. In both types, as well as in the versions of mirrors, it is possible to replace the mirror glasses with their holders, since they are issued as separate spare parts. The holder of the mirror glass is a plastic support plate with supporting elements, to which the glass is glued.

The external rearview mirror is included with the front doors. The assembled mirror is screwed to the door frame with three bolts and a plastic cover is attached to the internal one with one bolt, under which a high-frequency speaker can be placed. It is also necessary to take into account that the surface of the mirrors is covered with a sensitive reflective layer, and therefore it must be protected from scratches. Ice must not be scraped off with mechanical devices.

When washing the car, the mirrors should be leaned against the doors. This operation will not disturb their adjustment, which remains unchanged after turning to the original position.
