Knock sensor and its placement on the engine block
1 - knock sensor
Knock - detonation combustion - CU determines based on the voltage signal from the knock sensor. Knock adjustment is carried out for each cylinder separately. The CU shifts the ignition timing back to the lowest values in 0.5°–2°increments until the detonation is eliminated. The maximum value is 15°. If no knock is detected, the ignition advance is reset according to the control field. In the absence of a signal from the knock sensor, the ignition timing is reduced gradually up to 15°. As a result, of course, engine power is reduced. The knock sensor is screwed onto the back of the engine block.
