Note: This engine uses metal glow plugs.
Glow plug versions
1. Glow Plug with Combustion Chamber Pressure Sensor - Cylinder 3 Engine Code CRKB Only
2. Glow plug without combustion chamber pressure sensor
Switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key from the lock. Remove the top engine cover.
Carefully! Danger of damaging the mandrels. Press the pliers -3314- for removing the glow plug connectors only enough to securely grasp the collar of the mandrel without damaging it.
Open the wiring harness retaining brackets and remove the connectors from the glow plugs as directed. Install pliers -3314- until the grooves of their jaws -arrow A- catch the shoulder of the mandrel -arrow B- as shown in the figure.
Carefully! Carefully disconnect connectors from glow plugs. If the connector is damaged upon removal, the entire wiring harness must be replaced along with the connector (replacement of only one connector is unacceptable).
Disconnect connectors from glow plugs. Clean the glow plug well in the cylinder head (the ingress of contaminants into the cylinder is unacceptable).
Approximate cleaning sequence
1. Collect the main dirt with a vacuum cleaner.
2. Spray the glow plug well with a brake cleaner or other suitable cleaner and, after a short pause, blow out the well with compressed air,
3. Then clean the glow plug channel with a cloth soaked in oil.
Use socket wrench 10 mm -3220- to loosen glow plugs.
Note: On engines with engine code CRKB, use a 12 mm socket wrench -VAS 6454- to loosen/screw in the glow plug in cylinder 3.
Installation
Installation in reverse order. Use socket wrench 10 mm -3220- to tighten the glow plugs. Reconnect connectors -1- to glow plugs -arrow-.
Note: Check that the connectors are secure.
