The front airbag system provides additional protection for the head and chest area of the driver and front passenger in the event of a frontal collision in a serious accident. The driver's front airbag is located in the steering wheel. The front passenger's front airbag is located in the dashboard above the glove compartment. When deployed, the airbags deploy in front of the driver and front passenger. When the driver and front passenger are immersed in a fully deployed airbag, their forward movement is smoothly slowed, reducing the risk of injury to the head and upper body.

Driver's knee airbag under steering column

The driver's knee airbag provides a high level of protection for the driver's legs. The driver's knee airbag A is located in the lower part of the dashboard under the steering column. The driver's knee airbag deploys together with the front airbag in the event of a severe frontal collision. When immersed in a fully deployed airbag, the forward movement of the body is slowed smoothly and the risk of injury to the driver's legs is reduced.

Gas-filled side airbags

Gas-filled side airbags

The side airbag system provides additional protection for the upper body area (chest, abdomen and pelvis) driver and passengers in a side impact collision in a serious accident. The front side airbags are mounted in the front seatbacks - A. The rear side airbags are mounted between the rear door opening and the rear seatback - B. When the side airbags deploy, the overhead airbag and seat belt pretensioner are automatically deployed on the corresponding side. When deployed in a collision, the airbags reduce the forces acting on the driver or passenger and reduce the risk of injury to the entire upper body (chest, abdomen and pelvis) from the side facing the car door.

The overhead airbag system provides additional protection for the head and neck area of the driver and passengers in the event of a side impact in a serious accident. The overhead airbags are installed above the doors, on both sides of the passenger compartment - A. In a side impact, the overhead airbag is deployed together with the corresponding side airbag and the front seat belt pretensioner on the side of the impact. When deployed, the airbag covers the area of the front and rear door glass, as well as the area of the door pillar - B. The impact of the head on the interior parts is softened by the deployed overhead airbag. Due to the reduction of the forces acting in the head area and some limitation of possible head movements, the loads on the neck area are also reduced. In a side impact, the overhead airbag also provides additional protection by closing the front door pillar.

Disabling airbags

The ability to turn off the airbags is provided for use in certain situations, such as when a child seat is installed in the front passenger seat with the child facing away from the direction of travel; if, despite the correct adjustment of the driver's seat position, the driver is unable to maintain a minimum distance of 25 cm between the center of the steering wheel and the chest; if, due to disability, it is necessary to install special equipment in the vehicle; when other seats are installed in the car (for example, orthopedic seats without side airbags). The front passenger airbag can be deactivated using the key switch.

Airbag system control

The readiness of the airbag system is controlled electronically, including when one of the airbags is deactivated.

Close the glove compartment on the front passenger side. Check if the control lamp in the inscription 3 PASSENGER AIR BAG ON OFF lights up after the ignition is turned on. The indicator lamp goes out 65 seconds after the airbag switch status changes, or after the ignition is turned on.

ISOFIX system eyes
