Removal
Note.
- When disassembling, check the technical condition of the seat back padding.
- Below is a description of the removal and installation of elements using the left front seat as an example. The right front seat is disassembled and assembled in a similar manner.
1. Remove the front seat assembly (more details, see the relevant section in this chapter).
2. Remove the headrest assembly from the seat back.
3. Remove the front seat belt buckle (for more details, see the relevant section in the chapter Passive safety).
4. Remove the front seat trim panel from the tunnel side (more details, see the relevant section in this chapter).
5. Remove the side cover of the front seat from the door opening side.
6. Disconnect the seat back cover clips at the bottom.
7. Unscrew the seat back cover (1), first removing it from the seat back padding (3), as shown in the figure below. Disconnect the seat back cover from all fastening elements (2).
8. Lift and twist the cover from the rear of the seat back (2), removing it from the seat back padding (3), as shown in the figure below. Disconnect the seat back cover from all fastening elements (clamps) (1) shown in the figure below.

9. Unscrew the seat back cover (2) on both sides and remove both front seat head restraint guides from the seat back.
10. Pull the seat back (1) up to remove it from the seat back frame (2) as shown in the figure below.
Installation
1. Install the seat back padding onto the seat back frame.
2. Attach the cover (I) using new fastening elements (2) at the points (3) shown in the figure below, using the special tool (VAG 1634).
3. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
