Note.
- Necessary special devices, control and measuring devices, as well as auxiliary means:
- Mounting clamp -T10038-.
- Holder -T10I49-.
- Device for removing and installing engine and gearbox e.g. -VAG 1383/A-.
- All screws on undercarriage components with rubber-metal bearings must always be tightened in the curb weight position of the vehicle.
Curb weight
Weight of vehicle with full fuel tank, full washer water reservoir, spare wheel, tool kit, jack and no driver The spare wheel, tool kit and jack must be in the location provided for this purpose by the vehicle manufacturer.
Rubber mounts have a limited swivel range.
Therefore, suspension parts with rubber-metal bearings must be brought into position corresponding to the position occupied during vehicle operation (vehicle curb weight position).
Otherwise, the rubber-to-metal bearing is too tight, which would lead to a shortened service life.
By lifting the suspension arm on one side using a tool for removing and installing the engine and gearbox, e.g. -VAG 1383/A- and mounting bracket -T10149- it is possible to simulate this position on the jack.
1. Before starting work, measure eg. measuring tape size -a- from the middle of the wheel to the lower edge of the wing.
The measurement must be carried out with the vehicle in the curb weight position
2. Mark the measured value. It will be needed when tightening bolts or nuts.
3. Before you raise the suspension arm on one side, you must tie the car with a tie-down strap (clamp) -T10038- to the cantilever beam of the removal and installation device.
Attention. If the vehicle is not tethered, there is a risk of the vehicle slipping off the cantilever beam of the removal and installation device.
4. Remove the wheel.
5. Rotate the wheel hub until one of the wheel screw holes is in the up position.
6. Install mounting bracket -T10149- with wheel bolt onto wheel hub.
7. Lift the wheel bearing housing cover with a device for removing and installing the engine and gearbox, e.g. -VAG 1383/A- until dimension -a- is reached. Tightening the respective bolt or nut is only possible if dimension -a- has been reached (value from the middle of the wheel to the lower edge of the wing), which was measured before the start of work.
Attention.
- As long as there is a device for removing and installing the engine and gearbox under the car, the car must not be raised or lowered.
- Device for removing and installing the engine and gearbox, e.g. -VAG 1383/A-, must not be left under the vehicle longer than absolutely necessary.
8. Tighten the relevant nuts and screws to the specified tightening torque.
9. Lower the wheel bearing housing cover.
10. Pull out the device for removing and installing the engine and gearbox from under the car.
11. Remove mounting bracket -T10149-.
12. Remove retaining clip -T10038-.
