Attention: When working on the engine, turn off the Start-Stop system to prevent accidental starting of the engine. You should also turn off the Start-Stop system when overcoming water obstacles. If the Start-Stop system is used for a long time at high temperatures, it may damage the battery.
The Start-Stop system, designed to save fuel, is installed as an option. When the vehicle is stationary and certain additional conditions are met, the engine is automatically switched off, and also switched on automatically at the request of the driver. Each time the ignition is switched on, the system is activated automatically. To turn on / off the Start-Stop system, use the switch with the pictogram " ", located in the center console next to the transmission control lever. If the start-stop system is switched off manually, the indicator in the indicated key lights up.
The engine turns off automatically if, after stopping the car, disengage the gear and release the clutch pedal. Additionally, the following conditions must be met:
- the driver is wearing a seat belt;
- the driver's door and hood are closed;
- the vehicle is stationary and not on a steep slope;
- the electrical equipment of the trailer is not connected to the socket of the standard towing device;
- the engine is warmed up to the minimum operating temperature;
- the battery has sufficient charge and its temperature is not too low and not too high;
- the engine runs no more than 1200 rpm;
- there is sufficient pressure in the brake system:
- the difference between the temperature in the cabin and the temperature outside is not too big;
- since the last stop with the engine turned off, the vehicle speed exceeded 3 km/h;
- particulate filter not regenerated (diesel models);
- the front wheels are not rotated sufficiently (steering wheel turned less than 3/4 turn).
If the Climatronic climate system is in automatic mode, under certain conditions the engine may not switch off automatically.
The engine turns on automatically when you press the clutch pedal.
In the following cases, it is possible to turn on the engine without the participation of the driver:
- the climate system is set to the minimum or maximum temperature (in phase "start");
- windshield defrost/condensate removal mode enabled (in phase "start");
- High fan speed selected (in phase "start");
- the difference between the temperature in the cabin and the temperature outside has increased significantly;
- the car rolled at a speed of more than 3 km / h;
- the battery voltage has decreased;
- decreased pressure in the brake system;
- system "Start-Stop" turned off manually (in phase "stop").
In some cases it may be necessary to start the engine manually (key): If the driver's seat belt is not fastened or the driver's door is open for more than 30 seconds. This is reported on the display.
Information about the current state of the system is shown on the display in the instrument cluster. The following messages may appear:
ERROR START STOP (Start-stop malfunction) - malfunction of the Start-Stop system:
START STOP NOT POSSIBLE (Start-stop not possible) - it is not possible to automatically switch off the engine:
START STOP ACTIVE (Start-stop active.) - automatic shutdown of the engine;
SWITCH OFF IGNITION (Turn off the ignition);
START MANUALLY (Run manually) - start the engine manually.
