The rear coil spring is made of round steel wire. Its outer, end turns are twisted into a cone of a smaller diameter and simultaneously form a centering and mounting element. A rubber cone is screwed into the spring at the top, with which it rests in a pit in the body. At the bottom, the spring is inserted into the socket of the stamping welded to the upper surface of the spring holder, which is part of the swinging console of the rear axle. In this place, a galvanized sheet gasket is placed under the spring.

The rear springs are located almost under the car floor, and therefore do not reduce the surface area of the luggage compartment floor.

Removing the rear springs is only possible if the rear axle is removed.

The rear springs for all versions and modifications of the 1997 Skoda Octavia are the same. They are marked either with a green stripe or have no marking at all.
