Note: If the drive shaft mounting bolt is loosened by more than 90°, the wheel bearing must not be loaded by the weight of the vehicle, i.e. the vehicle must not be on wheels. If the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle when the drive shaft mounting bolt is unscrewed, the inner bearing will be damaged, which will lead to a reduction in its service life. If the vehicle has to be mounted on wheels or moved, the following must be observed: Install an outer CV joint instead of the drive shaft. Tighten the mounting bolt (use removed) external hinge with a torque of 120 Nm.
Remove wheel. Remove soundproof cover. Remove the drive shaft shield from the engine (in the presence of). Remove nuts -arrows-. Detach the wishbone from the ball joint. Pull drive shaft out of wheel hub and secure to body. Fit wedge -T10161- between gearbox housing and tripod joint. Drive the inner joint out of the gearbox by hitting wedge -T10161- with a mallet. Remove drive shaft.
Installation
Insert a new circlip into the shaft cutout. Set the splines of the inner joint shaft and gearbox so that they engage. Grab the cardan shaft by hand and push it into the inner joint until it stops. Now slide the inner hinge element into the gearbox immediately.
Note: Never use a hammer or similar percussion instruments!
Check that the cardan shaft is securely seated in the gearbox, while pulling the inner hinge element against the resistance of the retaining ring.
Note: Only pull out the joint element for this test, not the joint shaft.
Release the propeller shaft from the body. Insert the outer joint into the splines of the wheel hub as far as possible. Screw ball joint to triangular link -arrows-. Install the drive shaft shield on the engine (in the presence of). Install soundproof cover.
Note: Check the ball joint boot for damage and creases.
Tighten the bolt securing the drive shaft to the hub.
Note: When doing this, the vehicle must not rest on its wheels, as the wheel bearing will be damaged.
Tighten the wheel bolts.
