1. Place the vehicle on axle stands, then turn the steering to the maximum track angle and turn the wheel slowly. Check the condition of the rubber protective covers of the outer CV joints (see photo). Also check the condition and reliability of fastening of the brackets. Repeat these checks on the inner CV joints. If any damage or contamination is found, the protective covers should be replaced as described in Section 8.
2. At the same time, check the general condition of the CV joints. Hold the drive shaft with one hand and try to turn the wheel with the other. Repeat this test while holding the inner joint and attempting to rotate the drive shaft. Any noticeable movement indicates wear in the joints, in the grooves of the drive shaft, or that the drive shaft retaining nut is loose.
