Loosen fasteners -arrows- and remove noise insulation -1- from sump.
Remove bolts -arrows- for oil sump/gearbox. Loosen bolts -1...18- crosswise and unscrew. Carefully detach the oil pan from the sealant layer.
Note: Vehicles with manual gearbox 02Q are shown as an example.
Installation
Installation in reverse order.
Carefully! Risk of contamination of the lubrication system and bearing. Open parts of the engine must be covered.
Remove sealant residues from the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan with a chemical sealant remover. Degrease mating surfaces.
Note: The sealant must not be expired (see expiry date).
Cut off the tip of the sealant tube at the front mark (hole diameter approx. 2...3 mm).
Carefully! Excess sealant can clog the lubrication system. The thickness of the sealant layer must not exceed the prescribed one.
If the crankshaft cover on the pulley side has not been replaced
Indication: At the crankshaft cover on the side of the pulleys, after removing the silicone gasket, a ledge of about 1 mm appears at the bottom, which must be compensated with a layer of sealant applied in the appropriate place of the oil pan.
Apply a bead of sealant to the cleaned mating surface of the oil pan as shown in the illustration. On the mating surface of the crankshaft cover on the side of the pulleys -between the arrows-; 3...4 mm. On the mating surface of the cylinder block and crankshaft cover from the gearbox side: 2... 3 mm. In the area of the crankshaft cover on the side of the pulleys, a strip of sealant should compensate for the now missing silicone gasket in height and width.
Note: The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.
If the crankshaft cover on the pulley side has been replaced
Apply a bead of sealant to the cleaned mating surface of the oil pan as shown in the illustration. Sealant strip thickness: 2...3 mm.
Note: Apply sealant especially carefully in the vicinity of the crankshaft cover. The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant.
Continuation for both cases
Insert calmer. Install the oil pan and tighten the mounting bolts. The oil sump must fit snugly against the gearbox adapter plate/flange.
Note: With the engine removed, install the oil pan so that it is flush with the cylinder block on the flywheel side. After installing the oil pan, wait approximately 30 minutes for the sealant to dry. Only after that you can fill in engine oil.
Fill the engine with oil and check its level.
