Disconnect the battery cable to ground. Remove the air filter housing located in front of the battery (not applicable to 1.2 L engines, TSI; 1.4 l, TSI). Move the protective cover "see arrow".
Unscrew nut "3" and disconnect the positive wire. Unlock and disconnect connector "2". If the ground cable is connected, unscrew nut "1" and remove the ground cable.
Then unscrew the upper bolts of the starter "arrow". M12 - 80 Nm. M10 -40 Nm.
Cars with manual transmission
Remove the sound insulation. Unscrew the nut "1" (23 Nm) and put aside the wire holder "2" with the wire.
All cars
Unscrew the lower mounting screws "see arrow" and remove the starter. M12 - 80 Nm. M10 - 40 Nm.
Installation
Installation in reverse order.
Note: Use new self-locking nuts "1" and "3" to secure the ground wire and the positive wire.
Tightening torques for positive and ground wires
Ground wire, pos. "1" 20 Nm. Positive wire, pos. "3": starter with copper screw 16 Nm, starter with steel screw 20 Nm. Follow the order of work when connecting the battery.
