Caution! After working on the airbag system or on the electric seat belt tensioners or seat belts, the following instructions must also be followed. Before connecting the battery, switch on the ignition. No one must be in the vehicle when connecting the battery. On vehicles with the KESSY system, the ignition must only be switched on after connecting the battery, for safety reasons using the Tester, outside the vehicle cockpit (a valid ignition key must be inside the car). This procedure is part of the Guided Fault Finding tests. The battery terminals must not be greased or wetted with oil. The battery terminal clamps must only be attached loosely by hand to avoid damaging the battery housing. Install the battery terminal clamps so that the battery terminals are level or protrude relative to the terminals. If both terminals are disconnected, connect the (+) terminal clamp first. The tightening torque is the same for all terminal shapes (6 Nm). After connecting the battery and switching on the ignition, the ASR/ESG stabilisation program indicator lamp and the power steering indicator lamp are permanently illuminated. The indicator lamps go out automatically after driving a few metres. The steering angle sensor "G85" is then reactivated.
Turn off all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.
Cars with battery control unit "J367" (with Start-Stop system and independent and additional heater)
Before connecting the battery, disconnect connector "2" from control unit "3". Put the terminal terminal (-) with the control unit on the battery pole and tighten the fastening nut "1" (6 Nm). Reconnect connector "3" to the control unit.

Car without battery control unit "J3S7"
Place the terminal tip of the ground wire "2" onto the negative terminal of the battery and tighten the nut "3" (6 Nm).

Further for all cars
After connecting the battery, it is necessary to carry out the following work according to the equipment of the car: set the clock, check the electric windows. Then interrogate the event recorder and erase the codes in the event recorder.
Charging the battery
Open the cover of the heat-protective cover. If available, open cover "2" and connect the red charging terminal to the positive (-) terminal of battery "1". In vehicles with battery monitoring control unit "J367", connect the black charging terminal of the charger to ground point "3".
