Disconnect the battery ground wire. Remove the poly V-belt.
Cars with TDI engine
Remove the fuel filter and set aside 8 side (the hoses cannot be disconnected).
Cars with TDI engine and TSI engines with a capacity of 1.2 l, 1.4 l, 1.8 l
Remove the sound insulation. Remove the radiator fan together with the frame. Remove the air conditioning compressor (do not open the refrigerant circuit) and secure it to the side so that the supply hoses are not overly stretched. 1.8 l TSI engine: loosen the hose clamps "2", unscrew the screws "arrows" and remove the air duct hose.
Note: Seal open pipes with clean plugs from a plug set, e.g. "VAS 6122".

1.2L TSI engine: remove the guide roller, 1.4L TSI engine: remove the running roller.
All cars
Remove the shielding cap of the B+ wire fastening nut "1" and unscrew the nut. Disconnect the connector "2". Unscrew the fastening nut (3.2 Nm) of the wire holder -3- or, depending on the engine, release the wire and move the wire to the side.

A/m with a three-phase current generator secured to the side of the front shield - unscrew the screws "see arrows" (23 Nm).
Note: If the generator is clamped in the bracket, the screws must be screwed back in and then loosened by two turns. Carefully tap the flat side of the hammer on the screw heads. This will loosen the generator mounting bushings.

Car with a generator mounted on the side - unscrew the "arrow" screws (23 Nm). Remove the three-phase alternator by moving it downwards.

Installation
Installation in reverse order. Car with a three-phase current generator secured to the front panel side — to facilitate installation, move the threaded bushings "A" by approx. 3 mm "see arrows". Observe the tightening torque of the B+ wire. Observe the order of work when connecting the battery. After completing the work, be sure to start the engine and check the belt run.

Fastening the B+ wire to a three-phase alternator
Caution! The threaded connection of the B+ wire on the generator is marked B1+! If the 8+ wire is not fastened with the specified tightening torque, the following danger occurs. The battery does not charge well. General failure of the car electronics. Risk of fire due to sparks. Damage due to increased voltage on electronic components and control units. Always use new self-locking nuts to fasten the B+ wire "see arrow".

- Length of new carbon brushes = 12 mm
- Wear limit = 5 mm
- Permissible difference between carbon brushes relative to each other = +1 mm
