Description of control of a single door lock using a remote control, the "KESSY" system and a metal key is given in Section 1.

Driving with the doors not closed properly is not permitted. To warn the driver about the doors/luggage compartment not closed, the instrument cluster with segment display has a corresponding indicator lamp, which lights up if at least one door is open or not closed properly when the ignition is switched on. These indicator lamps also come on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on to check the functionality. If a door/luggage compartment is opened while driving, an audible signal is sounded together with the indicator lamp. On models with a graphic display in the instrument cluster, instead of the above indicator lamps, a schematic image of the vehicle with the doors, luggage compartment or bonnet not closed is shown on the display. If the doors/luggage compartment/bonnet are opened at a speed of more than 6 km/h, an audible signal is also sounded.

If the main lock is faulty or the battery is discharged, the driver's door can be unlocked/locked with a metal key (see illustration 1.3). The remaining doors can then be opened by pulling their interior release handles.

To lock the car if the main lock is faulty, first of all, you should lock the passenger doors one by one. To do this, open the corresponding passenger door, remove the rubber plug from its end (And in illustration 2.1) with the lock symbol, insert the metal key into the open slot (B) and turn it to the horizontal position (arrow). Replace the plug, close the door and make sure it is locked. After locking the passenger doors and the tailgate, close the driver's door and turn the metal key in its lock. Now to unlock the passenger doors, unlock the driver's door and pull the inside release handles on the passenger doors. If the additional locking of the rear door locks is engaged (see below), first pull the inside handle, and then open the door from the outside.

Tailgate/trunk lid (superb models)

On Superb models, you can open either just the boot lid or the entire tailgate.

The luggage compartment can be opened after unlocking the single lock (see Section 1) or just the luggage compartment. You can unlock just the luggage compartment with a short (0.5 seconds) by pressing a button (3 in illustration 1.1) on the key fob.

To open the boot lid only, press the handle on the bottom of the boot lid and the boot lid will lift automatically (see illustration 2.2a). You can also open the trunk lid by holding down the button (3 in illustration 1.1) on the key fob for 1 second.

Note: Automatic opening of the luggage compartment lid is negatively affected by temperatures below +4°C.

Note: Automatic opening of the luggage…

To open the entire tailgate, press the handle (1 in illustration 2.2b) on the lower edge of the luggage compartment lid, wait until the high brake light (2) flashes twice (at the same time, the switching of the hinge mechanisms occurs), press the handle (3) and at the same time lift the tailgate.

2.2b Opening the tailgate (superb models)

2.2b Opening the tailgate (superb models)

To close the boot/tailgate, lower it and slam it shut with a light push. There is a special handle on the inside of the boot/tailgate to make closing easier.

If the car was locked before the boot was opened, the boot is automatically locked for one second after closing and the anti-theft alarm is activated. When driving off, the function of the handle on the lower edge of the boot lid is deactivated as soon as the speed exceeds 5 km/h. After the car has stopped and after the front door has been opened or after the single lock release button on the key fob has been pressed, the handle resumes functioning.

Note: If the luggage compartment is opened and closed repeatedly, this function may be temporarily disabled to protect the electric motors from overheating.

2 seconds after the tailgate is closed, the hinge mechanisms switch to the position for opening only the luggage compartment lid.

If the single lock is faulty, the luggage compartment lid can be opened as follows: Fold down the rear seat back (see Section 9), from the inside, insert the key into the slot in the upholstery until it stops (see illustration 2.2c) and turn it in the direction of the arrow. After this, you can open the trunk lid.

Tailgate (superb Combi models)

The luggage compartment can be opened after unlocking the single lock (see Section 1) or just the luggage compartment. You can unlock only the luggage compartment with a short (0.5 seconds) by pressing a button (3 in illustration 1.1) on the key fob. To open, press the handle above the license plate and simultaneously lift the door (see illustration 2.3).

2.3a Opening the tailgate (superb Combi models)

2.3a Opening the tailgate (superb Combi models)

To close the tailgate, lower it and slam it with a light push. To simplify closing the tailgate, there is a special handle on its inner surface.

If the car was locked before the trunk was opened, the trunk is automatically locked for one second after closing, and the anti-theft alarm is activated. When the car starts moving, as soon as the speed exceeds 5 km/h, the handle function above the license plate is disabled. After the car stops and one of the doors is opened, the handle function is resumed.

If the main lock is faulty, you can open the tailgate as follows: Fold down the back of the rear seat (see Section 9), from the inside, insert a screwdriver or other similar tool into the hole in the trim until it stops in the direction of the arrow (1 in illustration 2.3b), and unlock the door by moving it upwards in the direction of the arrow (2). After this, you can open the tailgate.

Electric tailgate (superb Combi models)

Warning: When opening the tailgate, do not stand in the area where it is moving - risk of accident! In a critical situation, the moving cover can be stopped with a short sharp movement in the direction opposite to its movement.

Caution: Before opening or closing the tailgate, make sure that there are no objects in the area of its movement that could interfere with the opening/closing of the door (for example, cargo on the roof rack or on a trailer, etc.), otherwise the tailgate or cargo may be damaged. For the same reason, make sure that there is at least 10 cm of free space above the open tailgate (for example, up to the ceiling of the garage), because after unloading the vehicle its height may increase.

There are several options for using the electric tailgate:
  • by holding the trunk release button on the key fob for 1 second (except when the ignition is on or the trailer wiring is connected);
  • using a pen (And in illustration 2.4a) above the license plate (only if the car is unlocked);
  • by means of the button (B) on the lower edge of the tailgate (accessible only when the door is open);
  • via key in the passenger compartment, next to the transmission control lever (except when the vehicle is locked from the outside or trailer wiring is connected).

When moving the tailgate, the system distinguishes between 3 zones (see illustration 2.4b), in which the functions of individual drive elements differ. The extreme positions of the cover are also distinguished - completely closed (in a locked castle) and is completely open. The table below shows the algorithm of the electric drive operation for different control options ("+" - feasible, "-" - not feasible, "/" - change of direction of movement).

2.4b Electric tailgate opening zones (superb Combi models)

If the tailgate is opened electrically after pressing the button on the key fob or the button in the passenger compartment, a continuous sound signal is heard while the door is moving.

If the door is loaded (for example, a thick layer of snow), in some conditions, the opening process may be stopped. To ensure the operation of the electric door drive, unload it.

If the door is loaded (for example, a thick layer…

Opening and closing the tailgate manually is only possible in exceptional cases, and the movement must be slow and smooth, and the force must be applied as close to the middle of the door as possible; closing or opening the door from the side can damage its electric drive. The electric drive of the tailgate has a force limiting function. If the door encounters an obstacle when closing, it stops and a single sound signal of a constant tone is emitted. If, when opening or closing the tailgate, due to too fast entry into the car, the entire car is jolted, the door may stop as a result of the force limiting function.

Adjusting the upper position of the tailgate

For opening the lid in a confined space (for example, in the garage) or for ease of use (for example, taking into account a person's height) you can adjust the extreme upper position of the tailgate.

Note: The tailgate always rises to the level that was last stored in the control unit memory.

To set the up position of the door, stop the door at the desired position (using electric drive or manually), and then press the inner button on the tailgate and hold it down for about 3 seconds - storing the position in memory will be confirmed by a 3-fold sound signal of an increasing tone.

To delete the set door position, gently lift the door manually to the maximum height and hold the inside key on the door for about 3 seconds, a beep will sound, the previously set height value will be deleted from the memory, and the base value of the maximum height will be set again.

Note: The upper position that the door reaches during automatic opening is always less than the maximum possible height that can be reached during manual opening.

Malfunction of the electric drive of the tailgate

A malfunction of the electric drive of the tailgate is indicated by three sound signals of the same tone.

If the battery has been disconnected and reconnected with the tailgate open, the electric drive system must be activated (initialize control unit), for which the tailgate should be closed manually. As a result, the closed position in the locked lock will be saved as the extreme position of the door.

If necessary, the tailgate with electric drive can be unlocked from the inside in an emergency in the same way as the tailgate without electric drive (see the relevant subsection above).

Additional locking of rear door locks

The rear doors are equipped with an additional locking device to prevent children from opening them. To prevent the door from being opened from the inside, open it and turn the additional locking device with a metal key, turning it towards the center of the car (see illustration 2.5) and close the door. Now the door can only be opened from the outside. To open the door again from the inside, open it from the outside and turn the additional locking lock to its original position. Do not leave children or people with disabilities in the car with the rear doors locked, as children may not be able to get out of the car on their own if necessary (for example, when the interior overheats in summer or when the interior overcools in winter).
