Attention: Before opening the hood, take measures to prevent the vehicle from rolling: set the DSG selector lever to the position "R" and put the manual transmission in neutral, set the parking brake, remove the key from the ignition and keep children out of the car. If there is a system "Start-Stop" turn it off before working under the hood (see Section 18). Work in the engine compartment requires certain knowledge and increased attention, therefore, if there is any doubt about the correctness of the actions, work should be entrusted to specialists.
Open the driver's door and pull the lever (18 in illustration 12.1) near its lower loop - the hood is unlocked and slightly raised. Make sure the wiper arms are not pulled away from the windshield and press the release knob (see illustration 3.1), to release the hood lock. Grasp the front of the hood and lift it up - it will be held open by the gas strut.
3.1 Hood release handle
To close the hood, pull its front edge down, overcoming the resistance of the gas stop, and then lower the hood from a height of about 20 cm. To check that the hood is securely locked in the closed position, try pulling it up on the front edge.
Comment. In order to avoid damage to the paintwork, you should not squeeze a loosely closed hood with your hands, it will be correct to reopen it and release it from a small height.
