- when starting off, add gas only after the cable is taut.
- Release the clutch pedal very gently when starting off.
Towed vehicle driver:
- turn the ignition on to prevent the steering lock from locking and to allow the direction indicators, horn and wipers to operate.
- turn off the gear or select the position of the selector lever in position N with the automatic transmission.
- remember that the brake and steering boosters only operate when the engine is running. In the event that the engine is not running, much more force must be applied when depressing the brake pedal and when servicing the steering mechanism.
- make sure that the towing cable remains taut at all times.
Tow rope and tow bar
The most careful and safest is towing a car on a bar. Use the tow rope only if no suitable tow bar is available.
So that both vehicles do not suffer unnecessarily from shocks when towing and starting the engine by towing the vehicle, the towing cable used must be made of an elastic material. Therefore, only use cables made of artificial fibers or similar materials
Attach the tow rope or tow bar only to the towing eyelets provided for this purpose.
Driving technique
Car towing requires some skill. It is supposed that the drivers of both cars got acquainted with the peculiarities of the movement when towing cars. Inexperienced drivers should not tow another vehicle nor operate the vehicle being towed.
During towing, always make sure that both vehicles are not subjected to excessive traction and that they are not subjected to shock. When towing vehicles on unpaved roads, there is always a risk of overloading the fasteners on both vehicles and damaging them.
Attention. In the event that there is no oil in the gearbox due to a malfunction, you can only tow the vehicle with the drive wheels raised and transport it on a special vehicle for towing defective vehicles or on a trailer.
Note
- When towing the vehicle and starting the engine by towing the vehicle, observe the different legal provisions in individual countries, e.g. for marking the towing and towed vehicles.
- The tow cable must not be twisted, otherwise the front tow eye could, under certain circumstances, twist out of the vehicle.
