Note: To avoid damage to the wiper mechanism, do not turn them on if the glass being cleaned is dry, and also move them by hand. In frost, before turning on the windshield wipers for the first time after a trip, you should check if the brushes are frozen. The windshield wipers turn on when the ignition is turned on, unless they were turned off when the ignition was turned off. In cold weather, before parking the car, it is recommended to set the wiper blades to the service or intermediate position (see below). To prevent damage to the wiper blades, do not allow them to come into contact with gasoline or other solvents. To avoid damage to the pumps, do not operate the wipers when the washer fluid reservoir is empty, or continuously for more than 10 seconds.
Attention: Do not leave the rain sensor on while washing the car. Make sure the windshield is completely clear of frost and ice before operating the automatic wipers in frosty conditions. Do not use the automatic wipers in dry weather, so that it does not mistake drops of dirt, fog or insects that have crashed on the glass for raindrops. In order to prevent unnecessary operation of the windscreen wipers in automatic mode, replace the windscreen wiper blades if they leave water streaks and streaks.
Right stalk switch (7 in illustration 12.1) designed to control the wipers and washer of the windshield and rear window (in the presence of), and headlights (with appropriate equipment). In addition, it has control keys for the multifunctional display of the instrument cluster (see Section 13). The positions of the lever are shown in illustration 12.3. Windshield wipers and washer only work when the ignition is on; Washing / wiping the windshield only works when the hood is closed (with hood contact switch), and rear window cleaning only when the tailgate is closed. The washer fluid nozzles are heated when the engine is running, if the air temperature is below +10°C.
12.3 Positions of the right steering column switch for operating the windshield wipers
A () Rain sensor interval or sensitivity adjustment switch (in mode "1")
0 (OFF) Wipers off
1 () Interval or automatic mode (interval or sensitivity adjustable by switch "A")
2 (LOW) Enabling normal continuous operation of the windshield wipers
3 (HIGH) Enabling accelerated continuous operation of the windshield wipers
4 (1x) Turning on the windshield wipers for one cycle, or, when held, speeding up the movement of the windshield wiper brushes
5 () Switching on the washer fluid and windshield wipers
6 () Interval mode, rear window wiper operates approximately every 6 seconds (only on Combi models)
7 () Switching on the washer fluid and rear window wiper (only on Combi models); when released, the lever returns to position 6
Every time the windshield wipers are turned off, and every third time the ignition is turned off, the windshield wiper levers stop in the alternate park position (slightly raised from normal parking position), to prolong the life of the brushes. The windshield wipers return to the normal parking position after the engine is started.
After every second stop of the rear window wipers, the rear window wiper arm stops in an alternate park position to prolong wiper life (brush "capsizes"). To enable/disable this function, with the ignition on, within 5 seconds, pull the stalk to the position (6 in illustration 2.3), and then turn off the ignition.
To remove the wiper arms from the windshield, they must first be set to the service position. To do this, with the hood closed, turn the ignition on and off again, and then turn on the windshield wipers for one cycle within 10 seconds (pull the switch down). The levers return from the service position to the park position the next time the ignition is switched on and the right-hand stalk is moved or the vehicle is driven at a speed of more than 6 km/h.
In winter, the windshield wiper arms can be installed in the service (see above) or intermediate position (for their unhindered removal from icy glass). To do this, when the wipers are on, turn off the ignition - they will stop in the position that they occupied at the time the ignition was turned off.
When the washer fluid is turned on at speeds up to 120 km/h, the wipers (front or rear) turn on with a short delay, and at speeds over 120 km / h - windshield wipers turn on immediately. After the washer fluid supply is turned off, depending on the duration of washing, the windshield wipers operate 3-4 more times, and the rear window cleaner 2-3 times. At speeds over 2 km/h, 5 seconds after the last operation of the windshield wipers, they operate one more time to remove the streaks that have appeared. This function can be enabled or disabled at a Skoda workshop.
The windshield wipers have the function of changing the speed of work depending on the vehicle speed: in the interval mode, the wiper frequency depends on the vehicle speed, and at a speed of less than 4 km/h, the fast or normal wiper speed is reduced by one level (the previously selected mode is restored when accelerating to 8 km / h).
Windshield wipers try to overcome obstacles on the glass. If it is not possible to overcome the obstacle after five attempts, the wipers will automatically stop. In this case, remove the obstruction before turning on the wipers again.
When reverse gear is engaged, the rear window wiper is automatically activated for one cycle if the windshield wiper is on.
At speeds over 5 km/h with continuous operation of the windshield wipers (in normal or fast mode) rear window wiper automatically operates once every 30 or 10 seconds (respectively). If the rain sensor is enabled, the automatic activation of the rear window wiper only works when the windshield wipers are constantly on (time between cycles is not maintained). The automatic operation of the rear window wiper can be switched on/off via the menu "Setup>Light and overview>Clear. rear glass" instrument cluster display (with such a menu, see Section 13).
The car can be equipped with nozzles for supplying washer fluid to the headlights. In this case, after the ignition is turned on, the first time and then every fifth time the windshield washer is turned on, the headlight washer will be turned on if the dipped or high beam headlights are on and the right stalk is held pulled to the steering wheel (5 in illustration 12.3) at least 1 second. In winter, ice should be removed from the nozzles for supplying washer fluid to the headlights with a special aerosol so that the nozzles can freely exit the bumper.
If there is a rain sensor, when moving the right stalk to the position (1 in illustration 12.3) the automatic wiper control mode is activated. In this mode, the wipers operate when the rain sensor detects drops on the windshield. The rain sensor is built into the rear view mirror support and glued to the windshield. Rain sensor sensitivity adjustable by switch (A): the more to the right the switch is, the higher the sensitivity, i.e. the less moisture on the glass, the wipers will operate.
