1. Ensure that the customer's complaint is justified.

2. Perform a visual inspection for obvious signs of mechanical damage.
  • Oil leaks.
  • Visibly damaged or worn parts.
  • Loose or missing nuts and bolts.

3. If an obvious cause for a problem found during inspection or pointed out by the customer is discovered, correct the cause (if possible) before moving on to the next stage.

4. If the cause is not visually obvious, check the symptom of the malfunction and contact "Table of malfunction signs".

The following checks should be performed before starting any repairs or installing a new transaxle.

Inspection and testing of faults associated with a manual transmission in a block with a driving axle can be divided into three main areas.

Problems with gear shifting

1. Check the operation of the clutch: Place a wooden block approximately 25 mm thick under the clutch pedal and depress the pedal all the way. If, with the engine running and the parking brake applied, you can select first or second gear without any problems, the clutch is working properly.

2. If the gear(s) cannot be selected, contact "Table of malfunction signs".

Complaints about noise in the gearbox in the block with the drive axle

1. Check the engine and transmission mounts in the block with the driving axle for insufficient clearance between the transmission in the block with the driving axle and the body.

2. Perform a road test.

3. If the noise occurs in different gears at the same engine speed, check whether the noise is also present in neutral. If yes, the noise is not caused by the transaxle.

4. Refer to the Malfunction Symptom Table.

Complaints about oil leaks

1. Check the transmission fluid level in the gearbox in the block with the drive axle. Drain off any excess liquid if necessary.

2. Thoroughly clean the transaxle and surrounding areas and road test the vehicle.

3. Using a suitable ultraviolet fluid leak detector, locate the leak and check whether the leaking fluid is transmission fluid, brake fluid (from the clutch hydraulic drive) or motor oil.

4. Contact "Table of malfunction signs".
