A great contribution to ensuring driver and passenger safety (in the front seat) introduce inflatable airbags.

In line with the global trend of ensuring the protection of the vehicle crew in accidents, ŠKODA – AO Automobile Plant installs airbags on Octavia vehicles. The technically complex equipment can be ordered before purchasing the vehicle as special equipment. The airbag function is controlled by an electronic command device connected to the brake sensor (slowdowns). This unit gives an impulse to ignite the airbag pyropatron, releasing compressed, non-harmful gas to fill the airbags. The airbags are operational, as indicated by a light indicator on the dashboard, which lights up for 8 seconds after the ignition is turned on.

Attention! If any equipment malfunction is detected, the indicator lights up constantly. Then you need to urgently visit the Skoda service center, where they will carry out qualified repairs.

The programmed deceleration values that activate the equipment must be such that the squib does not ignite under maximum braking, which occurs under normal conditions when the brakes are applied. The values were established both by calculations and empirically during testing. The covers over the airbag unit on the steering wheel and over the unit located under the instrument panel bounce off when the squib ignites, making room for the airbags. Inflation of the airbags takes milliseconds. The information provided about the airbags is only indicative, so any amateurish intervention or dismantling of the airbags and components connected to them is absolutely excluded.

Attention! Unqualified intervention is life-threatening!

The pyropatron can explode not only from a car impact, but also, for example, from a short circuit in the electrical wiring connected to it. In all Skoda Octavia cars, the battery should be disconnected in case of any interference with the electrical wiring and consumers connected to it. Malfunctions of airbags and related elements can only be eliminated in a service center!
