Installing the instrument panel assembly into the body – side view

In this description, the instrument panel assembly will refer to all the instrument panel parts installed on the preparatory (pre-assembly) work place on the central support tube. Before installing the instrument panel, the steering column assembly and the passenger airbag unit are already installed on the central tube. Felt insulating tape is pre-glued to the places on the brackets where the instrument panel is placed.
Then it is installed and attached (six bolts) the dashboard itself. In the upper part of the dashboard in the middle there is a grille for air access to the windshield, and on the sides there are lattice circles (see fig. Mounting the instrument panel on the central tube).
Place on the dashboard (outlined by a gap), under which the passenger airbag unit is fixed, when the airbag is activated it goes up. If there is no airbag, the surface of the board is smooth, without cracks. The air distribution for the front part of the cabin is also part of the instrument panel.
Given the thematic continuity, it is necessary to add that to the mentioned layout (after installing the central tube with the instrument panel in the body) the two-part air distribution system is connected to the rear floor. It is placed under the carpet on the sides of the central frame member and is a flat plastic tube of rectangular cross-section coming out of the carpet behind the front seats.
After securing the main part of the dashboard, its central part and the combined one should be installed (combined) device with a speedometer, tachometer and other indicators (see fig. Installation of the central part of the instrument panel). In the front on the central part then on the plastic elastic spike the upper casing is fixed. Then the switches, plugs, if necessary the radio are mounted (see fig. Instrument panel installation). The instrument panel is different for cars without a front passenger airbag and cars with an airbag. The center tube either has brackets for mounting the airbag assembly or does not.
All switches located on the dashboard are secured only by snapping into elastic clamps.
The instrument panel, which contains three adjustable grilles to change the direction of air flow, is secured with eight bolts (see fig. Installation of switches in the central part of the board, casing and plugs). There is a multi-purpose switch on the steering column. The left side of the instrument panel houses the fuse panel.
The instrument panel assembled in this way is screwed – with two bolts on each side – to the brackets fixed to the inner surfaces of the front pillars of the body (frame) (see Fig. Installing the instrument panel assembly into the body – side view).
