The instrument panel for the LX version of the car contains fifteen indicator lights concentrated in a rectangular block (five rows of three bulbs) between large circular instruments. The tachometer has a digital clock at the bottom, and the speedometer has a built-in daily and total mileage counter. In the instrument panels for GLX and SLX vehicles, the indicator lights are arranged in a similar way, but instead of a digital clock, the tachometer has an on-board computer. It determines the following data, accompanied by the corresponding designation of the measured values: outside temperature, current fuel demand, average fuel demand, average speed, trip duration with a trip duration alarm. The signal notifies the driver every two hours about the need to stop, etc. The trip duration alarm is activated after two hours of continuously switched on ignition, at which time it automatically switches from performing any function and 2:00 is displayed on the display. The image flashes at a frequency of 1 Hz. It can be erased by pressing the RESET button for one second after calling the DOBA JIZDY function (DURATION OF THE TRIP). The driving time alarm can be acknowledged by pressing the button to toggle the function. If the ignition remains on, the function is toggled every two hours, with the time on the display increasing (2:00, 4:00, 6:00, etc. up to 24:00). Time is displayed in whole hours. When stopped (ignition off) if the warning on the computer lasts more than 10 minutes, the computer will not take into account interruptions of shorter duration.
The on-board computer is controlled by a switch on the right half of the steering column switch. The RESET button is also located there. The computer also functions as a digital clock.
Most of the indicator lights are made of LED diodes. Instrument lighting is also (automatically switched on when the vehicle's external lighting is turned on) lED diodes and red-orange light guides are used. The intensity of the lighting can be adjusted using a potentiometer inserted into the external lighting switch. Its rotary adjustment knob can be pressed into the switch housing after adjustment so that it does not interfere.
The instrument panel also has an audible alarm, which is activated when the external lighting is on, the driver's door is open and the key is removed from the ignition switch. The audible alarm is also activated when the speed exceeds 120 km/h (this can be installed by a tester in the service). The indicator precedes the lighting of the control lamp about the critical amount of fuel with one short beep, with a triple short beep about exceeding the maximum permissible temperature of the coolant, if necessary about the drop in the coolant level in the reserve vessel below the set level. Three more short beeps notify about the drop in oil pressure and a triple beep will also respond when the brake fluid level drops below the permissible lower limit.
For the first time in the production of Skoda cars, it was decided to remove the revolutions in the gearbox on the speedometer using electronics on the Octavia type. The speedometer is not connected to the gearbox by a mechanical drive.
All cars have a built-in auxiliary interval signal in the digital odometer. If the engine oil needs to be changed, the OEL lights up. The first or second service inspection is indicated by the inscription INSP.1 or INSP.2.
