One of the elements that maintains the optimum temperature of the coolant during engine operation is the thermostat. Skoda Octavia cars are equipped with a flow-through wax thermostat, which begins to open at a coolant temperature of 87°C, and reaches a full stroke of at least 7 mm at a temperature of 102°C.

The thermostat cannot be repaired and in case of malfunction it must be replaced with a new one with the same order number.

Thermostat housings vary, as does their placement, depending on the engine type.

Some housings are made of cast aluminum, some of plastic.

Examination

1. After removing the thermostat from the tank, place it in a container with water.

2. An accurate thermometer is also placed there.

3. The water is heated and it is monitored whether the valve opens at the set temperature (87°C) and whether it opens completely at the boiling temperature.
