Instructions and messages
Front Assist may be affected by the following conditions: Poor visibility (fog, heavy rain, heavy snow, etc.); movement in «steep» turn; with the gas pedal pressed all the way down; in the event of a malfunction of the Front Assist system; when triggered by dynamic control systems using brake mechanisms (e.g. ESC).
Attention! For safety reasons, the Front Assist system must be deactivated in the following situations: when under tow; when the vehicle is on the roller test stand; if its unwanted activation is repeated; transportation of vehicles by ferry, truck, rail, etc. Small vehicles and vehicles moving between two lanes are recognized by the system only when they fall within the range of the radar sensor. This is especially true for such narrow vehicles like motorcycles. If more than one brake light fails on the vehicle itself or on its trailer, Front Assist stops working.
Location of the radar sensor
radar sensor (next: sensor) monitors the traffic situation in front of the car. The sensor emits electromagnetic waves and distinguishes objects by their reflection. The following conditions may interfere with the operation of the sensor: the sensor is under a layer of dirt or snow, the sensor is blocked (for example, a sticker), bad visibility (fog, heavy rain, heavy snow, etc.). If the sensor is dirty or otherwise not «distinguishes» objects, the following message appears on the display in the instrument cluster. «M» Distance control in front: overlap. sensor.
Stop the vehicle, turn off the engine and clean the sensor or remove obstructions. If, after starting the engine, Front Assist does not work again, contact a service station.
Carefully! Clean the sensor of snow with a whisk and of ice with a solvent-free defrost spray.
Instrument cluster display: indication (dangerous approach) / pre-warning or operation of the emergency braking function in city mode.
When driving on the motorway, Front Assist assists the driver in the following ways. Draws his attention to a dangerous approach to a vehicle moving ahead. Collision warning. When danger is detected, it prepares the braking system for emergency braking. Assists the driver in braking. If the driver does not react to the danger, automatic braking is carried out. Front Assist only works when the following conditions are present: Front Distance Control (Front.Assist) enabled; adaptive cruise control on; the vehicle is moving at a speed of more than 5 km/h.
Proximity Warning
In the event of a dangerous shortening of the time interval to the vehicle moving in front, the symbol appears on the display - fig. A. The driver must immediately restore a safe distance, taking into account the existing traffic situation! The distance at which the warning appears depends on the speed of movement. The warning may appear at speeds between 60 km/h and 210 km/h.
Advance warning
When Front Assist recognizes the danger of a collision with a vehicle ahead, the corresponding symbol appears on the display and an audible signal sounds - fig.
B. At the same time, the braking system prepares for possible emergency braking. A pre-warning is possible between 30 km/h and 210 km/h. Press the brake pedal or go around the obstacle!
Active Warning
If the driver fails to respond to the first warning, the system acts on the brakes for a short period of sharp braking, which is felt as a jerk, which is designed to once again warn the driver about the danger of a collision.
Automatic braking
If the driver does not respond even to an active warning, the vehicle's system automatically brakes in several stages with increasing braking force. By slowing down Front Assist helps reduce the severity of a possible accident.
Braking Support
If the driver does not brake hard enough when a collision is imminent, the Front Assist system increases the brake force to minimize the consequences of a possible accident. Braking support is only provided as long as the driver presses the brake pedal hard enough.
Carefully! Automatic braking initiated by Front Assist can be interrupted by pressing the clutch or accelerator pedal or by turning the steering wheel. If Front Assist initiates automatic braking, the pressure in the brake actuator increases and the pedal travel changes.
Turn on/off
The Front Assist system automatically turns on with the ignition. Switching off Front Assist should only be done as an exception.
Enable/Disable Front Assist
The Front Assist function can be activated or deactivated in the infotainment system or in the MAXI DOT display. The proximity warning and pre-warning functions are also deactivated along with the system.
Enabling/disabling the proximity warning function
The proximity warning function can be activated or deactivated in the Infotainment system. The selected state of the function is also saved after the ignition is switched off and then on again.
Activate or deactivate the pre-warning function
The pre-warning display can be activated or deactivated in the Infotainment system. The selected state of the function is also saved after the ignition is switched off and then on again.
«Automatic emergency braking system» in urban environments
Emergency braking function in city mode (hereinafter briefly: emergency braking function) is part of the Front Assist system The emergency braking function assists the driver in the following ways. When danger is detected, it prepares the braking system for emergency braking. If the driver does not react to the danger, automatic braking is carried out with a gradual increase in the force of the brake drive. The emergency braking function is activated at speeds between 5 km/h and 34 km/h. The emergency braking function is activated and deactivated automatically together with the Front Assist system. If this function has initiated automatic braking, the symbol appears on the display - fig. IN.
Attention! The emergency braking function can bring the vehicle to a complete stop. If the vehicle rolls again after stopping, it should be held in place with the brake pedal. Automatic braking triggered by the function can be interrupted by pressing the clutch or accelerator pedal, or by turning the steering wheel. If the function has initiated automatic braking, the pressure in the brake actuator is increased and the pedal stroke is changed.
Display instructions
Messages and instructions are shown in the instrument cluster display.
«M» Distance control in front: overlap. sensor.
The sensor is dirty or blocked. Stop the vehicle, turn off the engine and clean the sensor or remove obstructions «review». If the message reappears after starting the engine, turn off the system. Contact the service station.
«M» Front assist not working
Stop the vehicle, turn off and start the engine again. If the message reappears after starting the engine, turn off the system. Contact the service station.
