Note.
  • Make sure the vehicle is level.
  • The selector lever is in position "P", leave the engine running in idle mode.
  • The air conditioner and heater are turned off.
  • The ATF fluid temperature must not exceed 30°C at the start of the check; if necessary, the gearbox must first be left to cool down.
  • The ATF fluid level changes depending on the ATF fluid temperature.
  • Checking the ATF fluid level when the ATF temperature is low will cause overfilling. Checking the ATF fluid level when the ATF temperature is high will cause underfilling, which will impair the operation of the gearbox.
  • Only ATF fluid supplied as a spare part can be used in the 09G automatic transmission. Using other fluids or oils will result in malfunctions or failure of the transmission.

Checking the fluid level

Note.
  • The ATF fluid level is checked through the ATF fluid control screw plug.
  • The ATF fluid level is normal if only a very small amount of ATF fluid flows out of the threaded plug section at an ATF fluid temperature of between 35° and 45°C (in countries with warm climates - 50°C) (caused by an increase in level as a result of heating).

1. Fill the ATF filling device for 09G automatic transmission.

Caution: The ATF filling device must be clean, and ATF must not be mixed with other fluids.

2. Fix the receiver of the ATF filling device to the vehicle as high as possible.

3. Place the vehicle on a four-post lift or over an inspection pit so that it is level.

4. Remove the lower engine cover.

5. Place a catch basin under the gearbox.

Attention.
  • When working near the cooler, ensure that you maintain a sufficient distance from the fan to avoid injury.
  • The fan may start on its own.

6. Start the engine and let it run at idle speed.

7. Once the ATF temperature reaches 35°C, remove the ATF inspection screw plug (A).

Caution: Wear protective glasses.

8. It is necessary to replace the sealing ring (arrow) of the ATF fluid control plug.

Note.
  • First, the ATF fluid flows out of the bypass tube (arrow 2).
  • The ATF fluid level is normal if the ATF fluid continues to drip before reaching a temperature of 40°C (approximately 1 drop per second) through the bypass tube from the inspection hole.

9. Install a new O-ring on the threaded ATF fluid control plug (arrow 1) and tighten with the appropriate tightening torque applied. This completes the ATF liquid monitoring process.

Note.
  • The ATF check screw must be closed again no later than at 45°C (in warm climates 50°C)
  • If no ATF fluid flows out of the inspection hole before the temperature reaches 45°C, then ATF fluid must be added.
