Note: The procedure is only valid for replacing or subsequently repairing the brake caliper.
Remove the wheels. Disconnect the connector of the brake pad wear indicator. Attach the air bleed hose to the brake caliper bleed nipple and then open the bleed nipple. Install a device for pressing the brake pedal, such as, "V.A.G 1869/2". Close the bleed nipple and remove the suction. Disconnect the brake hose. Unscrew both mounting screws, while holding the guide pin from turning. Separate the brake caliper from the brake shield.
Installation
The piston is set to its original position. Both brake shoes with springs are inserted into the mounting seats in the brake caliper. Install the brake caliper on the brake shield. Use new screws. Connect the brake hose. Remove the device for pressing the brake pedal, e.g, "V.A.G 1869/2". Connect the connector of the brake pad wear indicator. Bleed the brake system. Install the wheels.
Note: Press the brake pedal hard several times with the vehicle stationary until the brake pads are in their working position. Check the brake fluid level.
