Removal
Note: The following work is performed only when replacing the brake caliper and precedes subsequent repair work.
Note:
- Do not use power or pneumatic tools to loosen or tighten the brake caliper guide pin bolts.
- When holding the guide pin from rotating using an open-end wrench, avoid contact of the wrench with the brake caliper. Otherwise, the caliper installation may change, which will lead to pulsation during braking.
Caution: Do not use brake fluid that is not recommended by the manufacturer. Also, do not reuse brake fluid after draining. Do not use brake fluid that has been stored for a long time in a non-sealed container, as the fluid is hygroscopic and can absorb moisture from the surrounding air. This circumstance may lead to the failure of the hydraulic drive system when using such fluid.
Caution: Always install new brake pads, and replace them on both sides of the vehicle simultaneously to prevent the vehicle from pulling when braking.
Caution: Brake fluid is very aggressive to plastic and painted parts. Therefore, avoid getting liquid on the paintwork. Otherwise, rinse the affected area with plenty of running water.
1. Remove the wheels.
2. Disconnect the brake pad wear indicator connector.

3. Place the bleeder hose onto the caliper bleed nipple and unscrew the bleed nipple (1) as shown in the figure below.
4. Install the spacer -VAG 1869/2- as shown in the figure below to fix the brake pedal.
5. After this, close the bleed nipple and remove the bleed container.
6. Disconnect the brake hose.
7. Unscrew both brake caliper mounting bolts, holding the guide pins from turning.
Note:
- Do not use power or pneumatic tools to loosen or tighten the brake caliper guide pin bolts.
- When holding the guide pin from rotating using an open-end wrench, avoid contact of the wrench with the brake caliper. Otherwise, the caliper installation may change, which will lead to pulsation during braking.
8. Remove the caliper from the brake caliper.
Installation
Note:
- The piston is set to its original position.
- Both brake pads are secured by springs in the recesses of the brake caliper.
1. Carefully install the brake caliper onto the brake caliper.
2. Secure the caliper to the bracket with new self-locking screws, holding the guide pins from turning.
3. Screw the brake hose to the caliper.
4. Remove the brake pedal spacer -VAG 1869/2-.
5. Connect the brake pad wear indicator connector.
6. Remove air from the brake system.
7. Install the wheels.
Note:
- Press the brake pedal repeatedly with the vehicle stationary to bring the brake pads into working position.
- Check the brake fluid level.
