Attention! When driving with the engine off, the ignition key must always be in position 2 (ignition on). When the key is in this position, some contra lamps in the instrument cluster are lit. If the key is not in position 2, the steering column may suddenly lock! Remove the ignition key from the lock only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop (after applying the parking brake). Otherwise, it may block the steering! When leaving the vehicle, always remove the key from the ignition. This is especially important if there are children in the car. Otherwise, children could, for example, start the engine - risk of accident or injury! Never leave a vehicle with a running engine unattended. It is forbidden to turn off the engine until the vehicle has stopped!
Carefully! Do not start the engine by towing the vehicle - risk of damage to the engine and catalytic converter! The battery of another vehicle can be used as a starting aid. While the engine is not warmed up to operating temperature, avoid high speeds, do not press the gas pedal all the way and do not overload the engine - this can damage it! After a long trip with a high load, do not immediately turn off the engine - let it idle for about a minute more. Before switching off, the hot engine must cool down a little.
Note: The radiator fan may run after the ignition is turned off (including breaks) about 10 more minutes.
Electronic immobilizer (immobilizer)
The key head contains an electronic chip. With it, the immobilizer is automatically disabled when the key is inserted into the ignition. When you remove the key from the ignition, the electronic immobilizer is automatically activated. If a non-adapted key is used to start the engine, the engine will not start. The instrument cluster display shows the following message: «M» The immobilizer is activated. «S» IMMOBILIZER ACTIVATED.
Key positions in the ignition lock
Gasoline engines
1. Ignition off, engine off, steering can be locked
2. Ignition on
3. Engine start
Diesel engines
1. Fuel supply interrupted, ignition off, engine off, steering may be locked
2. Pre-glow, ignition on
3. Engine start
To lock the steering with the ignition key removed, turn the steering wheel until the lock pin clicks into place. If the steering column is locked and the key does not turn or is difficult to turn to position 2, shake the steering wheel slightly to the left and right - the column will be unlocked.
Engine start
Vehicles with diesel engines are equipped with a pre-glow system. Glow plug warning light comes on when the ignition is switched on. After counter. the lamp will go out, the engine can be started. During preheating, powerful consumers should not be turned on so as not to subject the battery to excessive stress.
Engine start procedure
Apply the parking brake. Set the gear lever to neutral position / move the selector lever to position P or N. Switch on the ignition 2. Depress the clutch pedal (vehicles with manual gearbox), or brake pedal (vehicles with automatic transmission), and keep it pressed until the engine starts. Turn the key to position 3 until it stops - the vehicle starts (do not press the gas pedal). Release the key and the engine will automatically start. When released, the ignition key returns to position 2. Release the parking brake. If the engine does not start within 10 seconds, return the key to position 1. Try to start again after about half a minute.
Vehicles with manual gearbox
If you try to start the engine without depressing the clutch pedal, it will not start. The instrument cluster display shows the following message: «M» Depress the clutch to start. «S» DEPRESS THE CLUTCH.
Vehicles with automatic transmission
If you try to start the engine without depressing the brake pedal, it will not start. The following message is displayed on the instrument cluster display: «M» Press the brake to start. «5» DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL.
Carefully! If the engine does not start on the second attempt, the following fuses may be defective. Gasoline engine - fuel pump fuse. Diesel engine - fuse for the control unit of the pre-glow system or fuel pump. Check the fuse, replace if necessary or contact a service station.
Engine shutdown
The engine turns off when the key is turned to position 1.
Note: On vehicles with automatic transmission, the ignition key can only be removed when the selector lever is in position P.
