They only work when the ignition is on and the bonnet is closed. When the intermittent windscreen wiper mode is on, the wiper interval changes depending on the vehicle speed. When operating in automatic rain wiping mode, the wiper intervals are adjusted depending on the intensity of the rain. If the windscreen wiper is on when reverse gear is engaged, the rear window wiper automatically performs one wiping cycle. The automatic rear window wiping function during rain can be activated or deactivated in the Infotainment system.

Caution! At low temperatures and in winter, before driving or before turning on the ignition, check that the windshield wiper blades are not frozen to the glass. If you turn on the windshield wipers with frozen blades, both the blades themselves and the wiper motor may be damaged! If you turn off the ignition with the windshield wiper on, the windshield wiper blades will continue to operate in the previous mode after turning on the ignition. Keep in mind that at low temperatures, the windshield wiper blades may freeze to the glass between turning off and then turning on the ignition. Carefully separate frozen windshield wiper blades from the windshield or rear window. Remove snow and ice from the windshield wipers before driving. If you handle the windshield wipers carelessly, there is a risk of damaging the windshield. Do not turn on the ignition if the front windshield wiper arms are retracted! Otherwise, the windshield wipers will return to their original position and scratch the paintwork of the hood. If a foreign object gets on the windshield, the brush tries to remove it. After five attempts to remove the obstacle, the windshield wiper stops to prevent damage to the windshield wiper mechanism. Remove the foreign object and turn on the windshield wiper again.

Note: After every third ignition switch-off, the initial position of the front windscreen wiper arms changes. This prevents premature wear of the wiper blade rubber material. The rear window wiper only operates when the trunk lid is closed. Keep the windscreen wiper blades clean. They may contain dirt particles, for example, after an automatic car wash. If the ambient temperature is below +10°C, the windscreen washer jets are heated when the engine is running.

Windscreen wiper and washer steering column switch positions

Steering column switch positions

0. Windscreen wipers are off

1. Intermittent windshield wiper/automatic wiper during rain

2. Slowly clear the windshield

3. Quick windshield cleaning

4. Single windshield cleaning cycle, service position of wiper arms (spring loaded position)

5. Function of combined automatic operation of windshield wiper and windshield washer (spring loaded position)

6. Cleaning the rear window (the windshield wiper operates regularly after a few seconds)

7. Rear window wiper and washer automatic operation function (spring loaded position)

A. Regulator for setting the interval between individual cleaning cycles (1 intermittent windshield wiper mode) or the speed of cleaning during rain (1 Automatic windshield wiper during rain)

Automatic windshield cleaning during rain

The automatic windscreen cleaning function during rain can be activated or deactivated in the Infotainment system.

Automatic windshield wiper and washer combination function

The windshield washer is activated first, the windshield wipers are activated with a slight delay. When driving at a speed of over 120 km/h, the windshield washer and windshield wiper operate simultaneously. After releasing the switch, the windshield washer will stop supplying liquid, the windshield wiper will perform another 2-3 cleaning cycles (depending on the duration of the previous washer operation). At speeds above 2 km/h, the windshield wiper makes another sweep 5 seconds after the last sweep to remove the last drops from the glass. If desired, this function can be turned on or off at the service station.

Rear window wiper and washer automatic operation function

The windshield washer is activated first, the windshield wiper is activated with a slight delay. After releasing the switch, the windshield washer will stop supplying liquid, the windshield wiper will perform another 2-3 cleaning cycles (depending on the duration of the previous washer operation). The steering column switch remains in position 6.

Automatic rear window cleaning function during rain (Combi)

When the wiper switch is in position 2 or 3, at speeds above 5 km/h, 1 rear window cleaning cycle is performed every 30 or 10 seconds. When automatic windshield wiping is on during rain (steering column switch in position 1) this function is only active when the windshield wiper is in continuous mode (without breaks between cleaning cycles). The automatic wiping of the rear window in rain can be activated or deactivated in the Infotainment system.

Winter windshield wiper position

If the windscreen wipers are in the home position, they cannot be moved away from the windscreen. Therefore, we recommend that in winter, the windscreen wipers be set in a position that allows them to be easily moved away from the windscreen. Turn on the windscreen wiper. Turn off the ignition. The windscreen wipers will remain in the position they were in when the ignition was turned off. You can also use the service position of the windscreen wipers as the winter position.

Note: If the windshield wipers operate in slow or fast mode and the vehicle speed falls below 4 km/h, the windshield wipers automatically switch to a lower operating speed. The initial settings are gradually restored when the vehicle speed exceeds 8 km/h.

Headlight washer

The headlight washer always turns on after the first and every tenth windshield washer when the low beam is on. Each cleaning cycle washes the headlights twice. It is necessary to regularly, for example, after each refueling, remove dried dirt from the headlight lenses. To ensure normal operation of the washer in winter, clean the nozzle supports from snow and remove ice with a special spray.

Caution! Never pull out the headlight washer jets manually - they may be damaged! The headlight cleaning system operates at outside temperatures from -12°C to +39°C.
