Attention.
- If the vehicle is to be scrapped, the airbags and seat belt pretensioners inside the vehicle must be activated. If the vehicle is to be used later and only the airbag modules are to be disposed of, they are activated outside the vehicle.
- When airbags or pretensioners are activated, a large amount of smoke is released, so it is necessary to select the appropriate space for their activation.
- The activation of airbags or pretensioners is a significant source of noise, so it is necessary to select the appropriate space for their activation. If for some reason this is not possible, take measures to ensure the soundproofing of the process.
- During the activation of the SRS elements, it is necessary to use protective headphones or special isolated rooms for personnel.
Activation inside the car (when scrapping a car) (driver airbag module)
1. Place the car in an isolated place.
2. Disconnect the negative and positive battery wires, and then remove the battery from the vehicle.
Attention. Wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting the battery cable before continuing any further work.
3. Remove the bottom cover of the steering column.
4. Disconnect the connection between the contact disk connector and the side connector.
Note. Immediately after disconnection from the instrument panel wiring harness, both electrodes of the contact disc connector are automatically closed. This prevents accidental deployment of the driver's airbag, for example by static electricity.
5. Use two suitable wires at least six meters long to activate. Connect the wires at one end.
6. Touch the car body with bare hand to discharge your own static electricity.
7. Pliers or something similar to bite through the instrument panel wiring harness, while the connector of the contact disk should be disconnected.
Note. The disconnect point must be far enough away from the side wire connector to allow activation wires to be connected to it.
8. Connect the activation wires to the disconnected instrument panel wiring harness, wrap the connection points with electrical tape, and then lead the activation wires out of the vehicle.
9. Connect the side connector with connected activation wires to the slip ring connector.
Note. If the car glass is scratched, the activation of the airbags will cause it to break and be thrown out of the car, so it is recommended to always cover the car with a cover.
10. To reduce the sound from airbag activation, close all door windows as tightly as possible, close all doors and cover the car with a cover.
Attention.
- Before activating the airbag in the manner described, first make sure there are no bystanders near the vehicle. Apply protective goggles.
- The igniter is very hot after the airbag has deployed, so you must wait at least 30 minutes to cool down before handling it. The gas that fills the airbag is not poisonous, but it is still not recommended to inhale it.
- If the airbag module does not activate, do not approach the module, but contact a SKODA representative.
11. Moving away from the car as far as possible, disconnect the connection of the two wires from each other, and then connect them to the terminals of the battery removed from the car to activate the airbag.
12. Once activated, dispose of the airbag module as described in the relevant section below.
Activation inside the car (when scrapping a car) (passenger airbag module)

9. Connect the side connector with the intermediate wire to the output of the airbag module.
10. Cover the vehicle with a cover to prevent stunning due to the popping of the airbags.
Attention. If any glass is cracked, the glass may shatter and fly out when the airbag is deployed, so to prevent injury, always cover the vehicle when the airbags are activated.
