Attention.
- The measurement of the installation angles of the car is carried out no earlier than after a run of 1000-2000 km, since only after that the process of landing the coil springs is completed.
- The reason for the restless behavior of the car can also be too much residual unbalance of the wheels and (or) their too large radial runout.
- In the course of probing operations, it is necessary to achieve the highest possible accuracy of the values obtained.
Note. Failure to comply with the position for assembling the rear suspension and, therefore, the direction of movement of the vehicle, can be manifested by an oblique steering wheel.
Attention.
- Before proceeding with the removal of the steering wheel, it is necessary to mark the position of the steering wheel in relation to the steering shaft, or, on occasion, use the already existing, pre-made marking. This position cannot be changed! Otherwise, the center position of the toothed rack cannot be ensured!
- The steering wheel shafts supplied as a spare part do not have a center position marked. It should be noted only after the measurement of the car and the subsequent test run.
- Vehicle with ESP: if the steering wheel is replaced on this vehicle, the home position setting must be checked (zero value) steering angle sensor.
Conditions for exercising control
Determine the chassis type from the vehicle data plate.
The difference in tire tread height between tires of the same axle can be up to 2 mm.
The tires have the correct air pressure.
The car has a curb weight.
The fuel tank must be completely filled.
The spare wheel and the tool kit supplied with the vehicle must be kept in the place designated for this purpose.
The windshield washer water reservoir must be completely filled.
During the measurement, none of the moving parts of the measuring system must reach the end position or reach the stop.
Preparing for measurements
To prevent distortion of measurement results, you must first perform compensation (alignment) end runout of the rim. Otherwise, the measurement result will be distorted.
Without the implementation of the compensation of the end runout, it is impossible to correctly. Adjust wheel alignment!
During the measurement, none of the moving parts of the measuring system must reach the end position or reach the stop.
The car is leveled in a horizontal position, to do this, shake the car several times.
Observe the prescribed preparation and alignment of the measuring installation; operate the unit in accordance with the instructions in the service manual.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the installation and toe angle measurement.
Compensate for rim runout.
Install the brake pedal holder (V.A.G 1869/2).
Secure the brake pedal with the brake pedal retainer.
Sequence of operations
1. Determine the type of chassis installed in the car. This information can be found on the vehicle data plate.
2. Compensate for rim runout.
3. Shake the car on the springs.
4. Install the brake pedal retainer (V.A.G 1869/2).
5. Measure the height of the car.
6. After adjusting the middle position of the gear rack, fix the steering wheel (locking the gear rack in the middle position ensures the same turning diameter of the car for both sides). If the steering wheel is tilted, it must be moved to the correct position at the end of the measurement (in straight ahead position).
7. Check and, if necessary, adjust the camber on the front axle.
8. Check and, if necessary, adjust the camber on the rear axle.
9. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment on the rear axle.
10. Check and, if necessary, adjust the angle of longitudinal inclination of the pivot axis back.
11. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment on the front axle.
