1. When the engine is cold (less than an hour after turning it off) carefully inspect the sections of the system from the engine exhaust manifold to the cut of the exhaust pipe. For convenience, the car should be raised above the ground, or driven into a viewing hole / overpass.
2. Check section pipes and their joints for traces of exhaust gas leaks, corrosion development and mechanical damage. Evaluate the condition of the support brackets and the reliability of tightening the fasteners. Leaks usually show up as sooty deposits in the area of the leak.
3. Rumbling and metallic grinding during movement are often associated with the failure of the brackets or slipping of the rubber suspensions of the exhaust system supports from them. To check the reliability of the fixation of the sections, pull the pipes and mufflers. If there is contact between the system components and body or suspension elements, change the worn parts of the supports and suspensions, or undock the sections and correct their position, ensuring sufficient clearance between the components.
