Coolant specification
At the factory, the engine cooling system is filled with a mixture of specially prepared water and at least 40% G 12 plus-plus antifreeze (TL-VW 774 G) or G 12 plus (TL-VW 774 F). Both antifreezes can be recognized by their purple color.
This solution does not freeze at temperatures down to -25°C (-13°F) and protects light alloy parts of the cooling system from corrosion. In addition, it prevents scale formation and significantly increases the boiling point of the coolant.
To ensure that the engine cooling system is reliably protected, the proportion of antifreeze in the coolant must always be at least 40%, including in warm weather or in warm climates without sub-zero temperatures.
If protection from even more severe frosts is required, the proportion of antifreeze can be increased. The maximum permissible antifreeze content is 60%, since with a further increase in its concentration, the freezing temperature of the coolant rises again, and the cooling properties of the liquid deteriorate.

Prepare a coolant mixture consisting of distilled water and at least 40% G 12 Plus-Plus antifreeze for topping up. This ratio will ensure optimal system protection against corrosion.
Caution: Poor coolant freeze protection can result in engine failure and serious injury.
- Coolant G 12 plus-plus can be mixed with G 12 plus and G 11.
- If the coolant in the tank is not purple, but, for example, brown, this indicates that the G 12 plus-plus or G 12 plus antifreeze was mixed with some other coolant. In this case, the coolant should be replaced immediately. Otherwise, serious breakdowns and engine damage are inevitable!
Note: Coolants and antifreezes pollute the environment. Collect and dispose of spilled operating fluids properly in accordance with environmental protection regulations.
Checking and bringing the coolant level up to normal

When the coolant level is too low, the coolant warning light comes on.
Preparation
- Park the car on a level, horizontal area with a sufficiently firm surface.
- Let the engine cool down. Open the hood (A).
- The expansion tank of the cooling system can be identified by the pictogram on the cap.
Checking the coolant level
- When the engine is cold, check the coolant level using the mark on the expansion tank.
- If the fluid level in the expansion tank is below the minimum mark ("min"), add coolant. When the engine is warm, the coolant level may be slightly above the mark.
