Note. If the fuel pump fails, the fuel must be extracted using the fuel extraction device -VAS 5190-.
1. Remove the rear seat cushion assembly (see the relevant section in chapter Body).
2. Raise the cover of the fuel pump.
3. Disconnect the five-pin connector of the fuel pump wiring harness.
Attention. The fuel supply line is under pressure! Cover the joint with a clean cloth before disconnecting hose connections. Only then can the pressure be relieved by careful release.
4. Disconnect the fuel supply line, collect the flowing fuel in a rag.
5. Connect adapters -VAG 1318/16- and -VAG 1318/17- together and connect the resulting "fuel extraction line" to the fuel filler neck.
6. Hold "fuel extraction line" in a suitable fuel container.
7. Auxiliary wires (A) From the measuring set -VAG 1594/C-, connect the battery to the contacts of the fuel pump as follows:
Positive battery terminal (+) - to contact -1- of the fuel pump.
Negative battery terminal (-) - to contact -5- of the fuel pump.
The fuel pump works by pumping fuel.
Attention. In order to prevent overfilling of fuel in the event of an insufficiently large fuel container, the fuel pump must not be allowed to operate unsupervised.
