Warning: Do not attempt to open or repair the control unit; in case of malfunction it must be replaced.
Examination
1. The ignition control unit is located on the inside of the right front fender, behind the headlight unit.
2. Before making any conclusions about the malfunction, remove the rubber protective cover from the control unit and make sure that the wiring connectors are clean and securely connected (see illustration). There must be good electrical contact between the control unit and the distributor.
3. Further testing of the ignition system, including the control unit, is described in Chapter 5.
Removal
4. Before removing the unit, disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
5. Pull the rubber sealing ring off the control unit, then disconnect the wiring from the control unit.
6. Unscrew the fastening nuts and carefully remove the control unit.

Installation
7. Perform the installation in reverse order, making sure the electrical wiring is connected well.
8. Connect the battery and make sure it is working properly.
