Connecting a stand for servicing air conditioning systems for the purpose of measurement and testing
Note: Depending on the type of tools selected, deviations may occur when performing work, so please see. operating instructions tailored to specific tools.
Note:
Perform work in strict accordance with the description in the operating manual for your air conditioning servicing stand "VAS 6007A" (or later model).
To prevent air and moisture from entering the refrigerant circuit through the filling hoses, the connection must be made as follows:
- Turn off the ignition.
- Connect the air conditioning system servicing stand to the power supply.
- Unscrew the plugs from the service fittings or fittings with a valve (see the specific vehicle's refrigerant circuit description).
- Evacuate the filling hose.
Note: Connect the charging hose with quick-release couplings to the service ports of the refrigerant circuit.
Caution: Do not open the valves on the low or high pressure side while the engine is running. Otherwise, when the air conditioning system is turned on, a short circuit between the high and low pressure sides of the refrigerant circulation circuit may cause damage to the compressor or the stand.
1. Screw the handwheel into the quick-release adapter only until the valve in the service port is fully open (monitor the pressure gauge readings and do not tighten the valve).
2. Start the engine and perform the required checks and measurements.
3. Compare the obtained values with the nominal measured values.
4. Before disconnecting the quick-release coupling, close it by turning the handwheel.
Emptying the refrigerant circuit using an air conditioning system servicing stand
Note:
- Depending on the type of tools selected, deviations may occur when performing work (see the operating manual for specific tools).
- Draining the refrigerant circuit is necessary if parts of the circuit are to be removed, if there is doubt about the amount of refrigerant in the circuit, or if safety precautions require it.
- All necessary instructions for using the air conditioning servicing stand can be found in the operating manuals included with the stand.
Emptying
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Connect the air conditioning system servicing stand to the vehicle's service ports in accordance with its operating manual.
Note:
- It is possible that refrigeration oil will also be pumped out of the circulation circuit along with the refrigerant. To ensure lubrication of the air conditioning compressor, fresh refrigeration oil must be added to the circuit.
- On vehicles with a compressor without an electromagnetic clutch (with air conditioning compressor regulating valve -N280-) the engine with an empty and closed coolant circuit should only run for at least 10 minutes (the compressor will also work all this time). The engine speed should not exceed 2000 rpm.
- On vehicles with a compressor with an electromagnetic clutch, the engine can be started, since the air conditioning system pressure switch "F129" or the high pressure sensor "G65" (monitors the presence of refrigerant in the circuit) will disconnect the electromagnetic clutch as soon as the refrigerant in the circuit runs out.

Note:
- Perform work in strict accordance with the description in the operating manual for your air conditioning system servicing stand.
- The procedure for using the WAS 6007A test stand is described here.
- Before charging the refrigerant circuit, it must be evacuated (until all air is removed) within 45 minutes (on installations with 1 evaporator) or 60 minutes (on installations with 2 evaporators). In addition, this removes moisture from the circuit.
- By evacuating the refrigerant circuit, leaks can be found.
Vacuuming
Attention:
- During vacuuming and while there is a vacuum in the refrigerant circulation circuit, the engine must not be started.
- If you start the engine when there is a vacuum in the refrigerant circuit, you can damage the air conditioning compressor.
- Start the engine only after filling the refrigerant circuit.
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. If necessary, adjust the amount of refrigeration oil in the refrigerant circuit, see the repair manual for the relevant vehicle.
3. Connect the air conditioning system servicing stand to the power supply.
4. Check the amount of refrigerant in the air conditioning servicing stand.
5. Connect the stand's filling hose with a quick-release adapter to the vehicle's refrigerant circulation circuit (see the specific vehicle's refrigerant circuit description).
6. Screw in the quick-release couplings until the service nipple valves are fully open (do not pinch the valves).
Note: If the system pressure needs to be checked after charging on vehicles equipped with a service port on only one side of the refrigerant circuit, use an adapter with a valve and a charging hose with a valve opener.
7. Start the vacuum mode on the stand. Evacuation of the refrigerant circuit is performed automatically (or see preset vacuum time).
8. If the vacuum phase is completed, the refrigerant circuit tightness test begins. The vacuum (bar) and time (seconds) are displayed.
9. If the vacuum does not hold, perform the following steps:
- Run the vacuum mode on the stand again. Evacuation of the refrigerant circuit is performed automatically (or see preset vacuum time). Observe the vacuum level for a longer period of time. Only if the vacuum is maintained can you begin filling.
10. If there is a leak through which so much air enters during vacuuming that the stand cannot create a sufficient vacuum, or the vacuum gauge immediately after turning off the stand shows that air is entering, and the vacuum disappears:
- Find the leak in the refrigerant circuit.
- Refrigerant circuit charging using an air conditioning system servicing stand
Note:
- Work must be carried out in strict accordance with the description in the operating manual for the air conditioning system servicing stand.
- Before charging the system with refrigerant, the amount of refrigeration oil in the system must be adjusted.
- The entire refrigerant charge volume can be introduced either on the high pressure side or on the low pressure side.
- Charging the refrigerant circulation circuit.
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Evacuate the refrigerant circulation circuit using an air conditioning system servicing stand.
3. Unscrew the handwheel on the quick-release adapter (close the valve).
4. Allow the charging hose to fill with refrigerant.
5. Screw the handwheel onto the quick-release adapter (do not pinch the valve) and fill in the required amount of refrigerant.
6. Turn off the air conditioning system servicing stand.
Note: If the air conditioning compressor has been removed, manually rotate the compressor shaft by the pulley/freewheel approximately 10 revolutions before starting the air conditioning system for the first time. This will help prevent damage from hydraulic shock in the air conditioning compressor when the air conditioning system is first turned on. If there is oil in the air conditioning compressor cylinder, it is squeezed out when turning.
7. Start the engine with the compressor turned off (version with electromagnetic clutch).
8. Set the air conditioning compressor to the minimum possible capacity; "Econ" or A/C OFF operating mode (version without electromagnetic clutch, with regulating valve).
9. Wait until the idle speed is stable.
10. Turn on the compressor and let the air conditioning system run for at least 2 minutes at idle speed.
11. If necessary, check the pressure in the refrigerant circuit using an air conditioning system servicing stand.
12. Turn off the engine.
13. Unscrew the flywheel on the quick-release adapter.
14. Disconnect the charging hose from the refrigerant circuit.
15. Screw on the plugs.
Putting the air conditioning system into operation after refueling
Note: If the air conditioning compressor has been removed, manually rotate the compressor shaft by the pulley/freewheel approximately 10 revolutions before starting the air conditioning system for the first time. This will help prevent damage from hydraulic shock in the air conditioning compressor when the air conditioning system is first turned on. If there is oil in the air conditioning compressor cylinder, it is squeezed out when turning.
1. Start the engine with the compressor turned off (version with electromagnetic clutch).
2. Set the air conditioning compressor to the lowest possible capacity; "Econ" or A/C OFF operating mode (version without electromagnetic clutch, with regulating valve).
3. Wait until the idle speed stabilizes.
4. Turn on the compressor and let the air conditioning system run for at least 2 minutes at idle speed.
5. If necessary, check the pressure in the refrigerant circuit using an air conditioning system servicing stand.
6. Turn off the engine.
7. Unscrew the flywheel on the quick-release adapter.
8. Disconnect the charging hose from the refrigerant circuit.
9. Screw on the plugs.
