Installation of headlight washers

Two windshield washer nozzles are dual. The plastic holder of each nozzle contains two steel balls for spraying the washer fluid. The direction of fluid flow is regulated by a needle inserted into the holes of the balls. The nozzle assemblies are inserted into rubber bushings embedded in the plastic cover of the dividing wall (see fig. Installation of windshield washers).
The polyethylene tank for washer fluid has a volume of 3 l and is designed for both windshield and rear window washer washers. It is located in the engine compartment and there is also a common pump, combined in one housing with an electric motor. The pump is reversible, so it can change the direction of rotation and thus it can be used either for washing the windshield or the rear. There are non-return valves in the fluid outlets. Liquid is supplied to the windshield washer nozzles by rubber hoses with a diameter of 3.5 / 7 mm, to the rear wiper (if he is) polyethylene hose with a diameter of 4.5/6 mm.
Driving safety depends on the cleanliness of the headlight lenses. In heavy traffic on wet roads, headlight lenses can only be kept clean by wiping or spraying with pressurized fluid. In Skoda Octavia cars, the second method was chosen, which is just as effective, but the equipment is less vulnerable to it.
Headlight washers in all modifications (LX, GLX, SLX) installed as special equipment.
Each of both headlights is cleaned by a fluid flow from two nozzles placed in plastic holders-extensions of the front buffer (see fig. Installation of headlight washers). In the case of installation of headlight washers, a reservoir for washer fluid with a volume of 5.5 liters is installed (general and for window washers). However, the headlight washer pump is separate. The washer only works when the lights are on (even parking lights) and start the windshield washer.
In summer, water with the addition of a non-foaming degreaser is used as a washer fluid, in winter - a mixture of water and an anti-freeze fluid specifically for washer fluid.
The following damages are possible in the washers. It is quite commonplace that some nozzles become clogged with dirt from the liquid. In this case, some injectors do not work. Pretty pins for cleaning. Another malfunction, not so frequent, is the slipping of the hose from one of the fittings (pump, wiring, injectors). In this case, the liquid flows out through the dropped hose and the washing does not work. Attaching the hose is easy. If the end of the hose bursts or stretches out, the damaged piece can be cut off. If the electric motor does not work, neither the rear nor the front window is washed. The performance of the electric motor can be checked with a 12 volt light bulb. Touching it to the connectors of the wires disconnected from the engine, at the same time press the washer switch. If the lamp does not light up (with the ignition on), You need to make sure the fuse is intact. The defect may be in the switch. If the light comes on, the pump motor is damaged. The last possible defect may be damage to the connection between the electric motor and the pump. In this case, the engine is running (can you hear it), but no pump. Repairs should always be carried out in a specialized service. Washer care is not required. From experience, it is recommended to fill the tank with a mixture filtered through a fine sieve (silicone fabric) and twice a year remove the tank, rinse and wipe to remove dirt and sediment. This significantly reduces the risk of clogging of the nozzles and the pump.
